CHAPTER IV: Disagreements

-Present-

The four of them sat on the rectangular table. Their dads were talking about work while Haechan and Areum just sat there quietly staring at each other.

"I didn't know Haechan and Areum went to the same boarding school together!" Hyunmin said and Minwoo laughed "Neither do I" Minwoo said

"How long have the both of you known each other for?" Hyunmin asked and Haechan broke the eye contact to answer his dad

"We've known each other since we were 15. But we lost contact after we graduated" Haechan said politely

Areum scoffed quietly "Liar" She whispered to herself

"Can't believe they knew each other before we even met" Hyunmin said and Minwoo agreed. They both laughed it off

"Haechan, it must be overwhelming to be the heir to Lee Syndicate. You should teach my daughter some skills, she's lacking quite a lot and she's the only heir that I have" Minwoo laughed but no one found his 'joke' funny

Haechan looked over to Areum and then to Minwoo. Haechan lets out a fake laugh "No, sir. I still have a lot to learn. I'm looking forward to this alliance with you and the things that i'll learn from you" He smiled

Minwoo smiled at Haechan's politeness "There's no need to use sir with me. You're going to be my son-in-law soon anyway" Both Minwoo and Hyunmin laughed but was soon cut off by Areum

"The wedding is not happening" Areum looked up to see the three of them staring her with a dumbfounded expression

"Areum, we talked about this, right?" Minwoo said sternly and gave her a deathly look

"I'm not marrying him" Areum said and left the room

The three of them sat there in silence until Haechan started to speak "Please excuse me, i'll check up on her" Haechan left the room to chase on Areum

When he opened the door he saw Areum walking towards the restaurant exit and quickly chased her.

Haechan pulled her hand and Areum turned around

"What do you want?" Areum asked

"Areum, let's talk" Haechan said

"No" She threw his hand off hers and continued to leave the restaurant leaving Haechan standing there. He got weird stares from the people in the restaurant

In the lavish mansion, the daughter of the enigmatic mafia boss retreats to her sanctuary, a bedroom that exudes an air of both opulence and intrigue. The room is a symphony of dark elegance, draped in sumptuous silks and velvets in deep shades of burgundy and ebony.

The room resonates with an air of mystery, an intimate glimpse into the duality of her life as a mafia heiress, where beauty and danger intertwine seamlessly.

"Unnie, can you come over" Areum said to Yoona on the phone "Sure, i'm at the warehouse and i'll be leaving soon anyway. I'll drop by in a few minutes" Yoona replied

Areum ended the phone call with Yoona and layed on her king-sized bed. She sighed, staring at the ceiling

"Why, god? Why do I have to meet him again?" She said as a tear roll down her cheeks, meeting her comforter

Just then, someone barged into her door.

"Song Areum!" Minwoo shouted which caused Areum to jolt up from her bed

"You just embarrassed me infront of Hyunmin! What do you have against his son for you to act that way?!" He asked

"That's none of your business. I am not getting married to him. You can ask me to marry someone else, I don't give a damn. But please not him, Appa" Areum argued

"How dare you raise your voice against me! Do you realise that Lee Syndicate is the most powerful gang right now?! It has to be them" Minwoo emphasised

Areum scoffed "Do you even consider me as your daughter? I'm never good enough for you no matter what! Is Song Shadows the only thing that matters to you? You really don't care about your own family, do you? This is why mom left you-"

Minwoo slapped his daughter to draw some sense into her. Areum quickly covered her cheeks that's now burning from the slap.

"Don't ever mention your mom again! She was nothing but a menace" Minwoo said. Areum was so disappointed at her dad

Suddenly someone entered the room. It was Yoona. She scanned the room and saw Areum crying. She immediately sensed something was going on. Yoona ran to Areum and hugged her.

"Unnie, get out of here" Areum said, scared of what her dad might do to her too "Are you sure?" Yoona asked and Areum nodded

Once Yuna was out of the room Minwoo spoke again.

"You're getting married to him not matter what" Minwoo took a step nearer to Areum

"Song Shadows is family. And family always comes first" Minwoo said sternly and Areum just stared at her dad with teary eyes from his words

He finally left her room right after and Areum continued crying on her bed. Areum is not crying because her dad slapped her but she's crying because of her dad's different idea of what family is.
