"You brat!" Haechan pulled away from the hug forcefully "So now you don't even have respect for me nor remember how i look like?"
The girl chuckled awkwardly "I'm sorry, oppa. You just look so different! Where's Appa?" Haechan rolled his eyes at his little sister.
"He's waiting for you at the house, come on, let's go home" Haechan placed his arms on her shoulders and they both went to the car that was waiting for them outside.
Lee Hanni is Haechan's younger sister by four years. She just finished her studies in Australia and she's now back to work with Lee Syndicate.
As Haechan and Hanni finally sat down in his car, Haechan told her everything that happened while she was gone.
Hanni stared at Haechan in disbelief, her eyes wide in shock "Married? You got married?" She stuttered, her voice tinged with a mix of surprise and hurt.
Haechan scratched his head nervously, avoiding her gaze "Yeah, it happened quite suddenly, and I didn't want to bother you while you were studying. I thought you'd be busy with your classes and everything"
Hanni's shoulders slumped, and a mix of emotions washed over her "But oppa, you're my brother! You didn't think to tell me? Or at least invite me to your wedding?" Her voice cracked, revealing the pain she was feeling.
The traffic light was red and Haechan stopped the car. Haechan sighed, "I'm really sorry, Hanni. It was an arranged marriage so it all happened so quickly, I didn't want to burden you with travel arrangements and everything. I thought I was doing what was best for you"
Hanni took a deep breath, trying to steady her emotions "I appreciate that, but I still wish you had told me. I feel like I've missed out on such an important moment in your life"
"Hey, don't be so emotional about it, I can reenact the wedding for you if you want" He joked.
"Whatever," Hanni looked at her brother and rolled her eyes "Who are you married to anyway?"
Haechan smiled "You'll love her, her name is Areum. She's the daughter of Song Minwoo from Song Shadows. She's at the house too waiting for you"
"Wow that sounded so bougie" She laughed "Can't wait to meet my sister in-law" She teased Haechan and playfully poked the sides of his body.
"Hanni! Stop, i'm driving!"
-
Hanni's heart raced as she stood in front of the familiar front door. After almost two years away, she had finally returned home. She pushed the door open and stepped inside, her voice echoing through the house as she screamed, "I'm home!"
The sound of her own voice filled the air, and she stood there, waiting anxiously for a response. Suddenly, her father appeared from around the corner, "Hanni?"
"Appa! I missed you!" She rushed forward, her feet carrying her as fast as they could, until she was wrapped tightly in her father's arms.
He held her close, his grip firm yet gentle, as if he couldn't quite believe that she was really there "How was your flight?" He asked.
"It was great!" She said and shortly after, a voice spoke behind her "Hanni," It was Haechan "This is my wife"
Hanni turned around and took in the both of them. Haechan had wrapped his arms around Areum's waist.
"Hi, Hanni. I'm Areum" Areum started and Hanni ran up to the both of them and hugged them "Aww you guys are so cute!"
Everyone laughed at her silliness and they finally pulled away "Growing up I've always wanted a sister and now I finally have one" Areum said while holding Hanni's hand.
"Same! Having Haechan oppa as a brother is a burden" Hanni said and Haechan hit her arm
"You brat!"They shared a few laughs and finally Hyunmin interrupted them "Let's eat dinner everyone" Hyunmin said and everyone nodded and started walking to the dining table.
-
During the dinner conversation, Hyunmin turned his attention to Hanni and Areum, a determined glint in his eyes.
"Hanni, Areum, I have an important task for you both," He said, his voice steady "With the gala just a week away, I want the two of you to train together, to prepare for what's to come"
Hanni looked at her father, nodding in understanding "Train? What do you mean, Appa?"
Hyunmin's gaze shifted, his expression serious. "The gala is not just about appearances. It's essential that you both can navigate conversations, handle situations,"
"As for you, Areum, i'm sure your dad has already trained you well but it's time for you to learn Lee Syndicate's secrets and how to handle the conversations about it, you are family now"
Areum smiled and chimed in, her curiosity evident "How do we start?"
Hyunmin offered a reassuring smile "I've arranged for some experienced mentors to guide you. They'll teach you the art of conversation, etiquette, and how to handle various scenarios that might arise. This training will equip you both with the skills you need to make a lasting impression"
Hanni exchanged a glance with Areum, a mix of determination and excitement in her eyes "I'm excited, this is my first ever real gala"
Hyunmin's smile grew, a blend of pride and reassurance "Remember though, this is not just about the gala itself, but about the relationships you'll build and the connections you'll establish. It's a chance to show that our family is not to be underestimated"
As the dinner continued, everyone nodded in agreement, already envisioning the training ahead and the opportunity it presented. The anticipation for the upcoming week grew, as they prepared to step into a world that demanded their best, guided by Hyunmin's wisdom and guidance.
