Amidst the sea of caps and gowns, Haechan and Areum stood side by side, their smiles radiant with pride and accomplishment.
As they gazed out at their fellow graduates, a shared journey of hard work and perseverance stretched behind them, forming a bond that had grown stronger through the challenges they faced together.
Haechan's voice was filled with genuine warmth as he turned to Areum, his eyes reflecting a mix of admiration and affection.
"Congratulations Areum," He said, his words carrying a world of meaning beyond their surface.
Areum's heart swelled with emotion as she looked at him, her voice quivering slightly but brimming with sincerity. "And to you too, Haechan. We did it!"
Looking into each other's eyes, their smiles carried a depth of emotion that words could barely capture. With a soft, earnest tone, he uttered those three words that had been waiting to find their way into the open
"I love you, Areum" Areum's eyes widened, her heart fluttering as she gazed at him, feeling the weight and beauty of those words
"I love you too, Haechan. Here's to more accomplishments together in the future"
-
As Areum was packing her stuff up in her dormitory, a phone call from Haechan rang and she quickly answered the phone "Hey, what's up?"
"Babe, there's gonna be a graduation party tonight at Jeno's, do you wanna come with me?" Haechan asked
"I'm quite tired from packing, I think i'll pass. You should go and have fun though!" Areum said and he could already imagine Haechan pouting at the other end of the phone call
"You sure? I can pass too and hang out with you tonight" Haechan said "Yup, i'm very sure. Go have fun, babe. It's our last few nights here anyway. But don't drink too much please"
"Alright I won't, i'll text you after the party. I love youuuu" Areum giggled at Haechan's goofiness "I love you too"
Areum ended the phone call and laid on her bed. She was so tired that she immediately fell asleep right after she placed her phone down.
-
Areum woke up at around 7am, feeling confused "Wow that was the best sleep i've ever had" She said to herself
She looked for her phone that was now on the floor and checked her notifications. No text messages or calls from Haechan. She was weirded out because she clearly remembered that he said he would text her after the party.
Areum chuckled "He probably got too drunk again" She sighed and got ready to check up on him at Jeno's house
-
As he arrived to Jeno's house, she noticed that the door wasn't locked and came in. The smell of alcohol immediately greeted her. The house was in a state of controlled chaos.
Empty cups and discarded plates were scattered across tables and countertops. Streamers and confetti adorned corners and crevices, a colorful testament to the jubilant festivities.
Furniture was pushed slightly out of place, evidence of exuberant dancing and animated conversations.
"Damn. They really partied hard last night" She thought
She walked past the chaos and started looking for Haechan in what felt like thousands of rooms. Of course she accidentally went in to a room where a couple doing what couples do and she apologised quickly and closed the door, feeling awkward.
"Where could Haechan be?" She asked herself as she opened a door to a room once again. But this time it's a different story. Areum couldn't believe what she saw in the room
Heartbroken and stunned, Areum stood in the doorway, her eyes welling up with tears as she witnessed the scene that shattered her world.
Haechan, the person she had trusted and loved, lay asleep beside another girl. The room felt suffocating, each breath heavier than the last. Anguish mixed with disbelief as Areum's heart ached, the weight of betrayal crashing down upon her.
She turned away, struggling to process the painful truth that now lay bare before her. The shattered pieces of her trust seemed irreparable, and the future they had envisioned together suddenly felt like a distant, unreachable dream.
As she was leaving the house full of cups and alcoholic drinks all over the place, she bumped into Jeno. Jeno quickly noticed that Areum was crying.
"Hey, everything alright?" Both his hands on her shoulders, stopping her tracks
"Haechan.. he slept with someone else" Jeno immediately took in what she said and shocked was an understatement. He couldn't believe his friend would do this to Areum
"Oh shit Areum, you okay?" He asked "Yeah don't worry about me," She wiped her tears
"Just tell him I want to talk to him tonight at Joe's Delight at 8pm, when he's done with his stuff" Areum said with a sarcastic tone
-
Areum sat anxiously at a corner table in Joe's Delight, her heart racing with a mixture of anticipation and sadness. The familiar ambiance of the café, once a place of shared laughter and sweet moments, now felt heavy with uncertainty. As time ticked away, her hope began to waver, replaced by a gnawing unease.
Suddenly, Jeno, approached the table with a somber expression. Areum's eyes welled up as she looked at him, a sense of dread washing over her.
With a heavy sigh, Jeno started "He left for Korea unexpectedly a few hours ago"
The words hit Areum like a crushing blow, her tears escaping as she clung to the edge of the table for support. Her world seemed to crumble around her, the pain of abandonment cutting deep.
"He didn't even bother to apologise to me before he left?" She felt like a helpless mess, left behind and betrayed in a place that had once been a symbol of their love
"Wow," She scoffed "After everything we've been through.. he just left.. just like that"
Jeno stared at her with an apologetic look, feeling bad for Areum.
