CHAPTER XXI : A Daughter's Dilemma

"Jake?!"

"Y-you and," She tilted her head to Mi So and back to Jake "You're her son?!"

"Yes sweetheart" Mi So said handing her a glass of wine as Jake made his way to the three of them.

"Get that off my face!" Areum hit Mi So's hand and the wine glass fell down, shattered. Wine going everywhere, staining the expensive rug and couch.

"Appa, what is all this?!" Areum, disappointedly, walked to her dad and stood right beside him.

"Areum, can't you see? We're obviously doing the best for Song Shadows. We're expanding our dominance by taking over Lee Syndicate!" Minwoo let out an evil laugh

As Areum absorbed her father's sinister plan all this while, a cold realization settled in the pit of her stomach.

"Are you guys crazy?" Areum scoffed "Haechan is my husband and I will do anything and everything to protect him"

"Aww that's cute," Jake clapped his hands and stood infront of her grabbing her face forcefully "And you think we care?"

In a swift motion, Areum quickly pulled her head and pushed Jake "Fucking grab my face like that once again, Jake and i'll-"

"Shut up, Areum!" Minwoo stood up cutting her off and stood up to stand infront of her.

"You will go to the gala and make sure his whole family is there.. or else," He trailed off.

Minwoo took out a gun from the back of his waistband and played with the trigger "One shot of this and he'll die" Minwoo continued.

"If you succeeded in making sure all of them are there, i'll give you the advantage of having Haechan yourself. Kill him or not, I really don't care. What I do care is that his whole gang will be there and it'll be easier for our side to attack" Minwoo laughed.

Areum, consumed by anger was on the verge of punching her own dad when Jake and Mi So stopped her from doing so.

"Fuck you all!" Areum screamed, her emotions overwhelmed her as Mi So and Jake restrained her. Tears streamed down her face.

"You're playing with fire, Areum. Haechan's life is in your hands now. Betray us and you'll be responsible for his death" Mi So said

"I never thought that you would stoop this low, Appa" Areum said sternly and straight to her dad's eyes.

Her comment met an unexpected response. Her father's hand struck her cheek with a resounding slap, leaving the room echoing with the impact.

"You'll do as you're told! Remember your place, Areum. Fucking hell! You're just as stubborn and stupid like your mother!"

Areum's hands covered her now red cheeks and more tears welled in Areum's eyes, a mix of pain and rebellion.

"I will never forgive you for this" Areum managed to let out and she gave both Jake and Mi So a glare "Both of you as well"

"Blah blah blah, you'll thank us anyway when Song Shadows rule the underground world, Areum. This is the truth, whether you like it or not" She trailed off

"Let me give you a piece of advice, sweetheart. No one plays safe in this cruel world we chose to live in" Mi So said giving Areum an evil smile.

"The clock is ticking, Areum" Jake said

Frustration boiling over, Areum shouted and kicked the nearest coffee table. With a mix of reluctance and resignation, she muttered,

"Fine. I'll do it"

The door to her childhood bedroom creaked shut, sealing her in with the weight of the betrayal. Abandoned in the aftermath of her father's cruel decision.

With a trembling exhale, Areum sank to the floor slowly, the cool surface providing a stark contrast to the searing betrayal etched on her face.

Tears welled in her eyes, not from the stinging pain of getting slapped from her own father, but for the realization of the man her father had become. Or more like, what he's always been.

"How could he" Areum sobbed, wrapping herself in the comfort of her own room. Her shoulders shook with silent sobs.

She had not expected her father to be this cruel. In this moment of weakness, her father felt less like a father and more like a stranger with a heart hardened by the cruel demands of power.

Suddenly the door to Areum's room opened gently, revealing Yoona. Her eyes widened at the sight of Areum, curled on the floor, tears staining her cheeks.

"Areum!" Yoona rushed to her side, offering a comforting embrace. As Areum recognised the voice and embrace she immediately cried even harder.

"Unnie.. T-they want me to-" Areum spoke, stuttering

"Shh. I know, Areum. It's okay, you don't have to say it" At that moment, Yoona shared the pain with Areum. The sight of her best friend being this vulnerable hurts her heart.

She couldn't imagine the pain Areum is going through right now. Especially since Haechan and Areum are back together now. She knew Areum had always wanted this to happen and now when it finally did, her dad just betrayed her like that.

"We'll figure this out together. You're not alone, Areum" She caresses her back again and again, comforting her

"I hate him, Unnie. I hate my own Dad"
