CHAPTER XXXI :
Potraits Of The Past

❛ ━━・❪ ❁ ❫ ・━━ ❜

"Have you seen Areum?" Haechan asked as he wandered around the warehouse, looking for Areum.

"I bumped into her a while ago, she said she wanted to go home. I think she already left" Hanni said and Haechan was about to run when Hanni stopped him.

"Did you.. get answers?" Hanni asked, worried that the answer might not be the one that everyone would want to hear.

"She was right the whole time, Hanni. Minwoo said it himself. Tell everyone, alright? I need to go home now" Haechan said before he left her in a hurry.

When Haechan arrived home, she found Areum lying down on the couch, her eyes were closed but a tear trail was visible on her face indicating that she was crying hard.

"Let's get you to the bed upstairs" Haechan sighed, he hates seeing Areum like this. He picked her up and carried her to their room before placing her down on the bed.

Areum sat on the edge of the bed and Haechan sat beside her. Haechan turned her gently so she could face him and he wiped her tears away with his thumb.

"Areum I know your dad wasn't there for you much" He said softly, his voice filled with sincerity.

"But I want you to know that I will be. I'm here for you. Always" He wrapped his arms around her, holding her close as she cried into his shoulder.

"I love you so much, Lee Areum" He whispered, his embrace providing the comfort and security she desperately needed.

-A Week Later-

As the sun shone into their bed, it woke Haechan up. But when he turned around, Areum wasn't beside him.

"Where is she" He thought.

Haechan went downstairs and saw Areum standing in front of his family portrait hung on the wall in the living room, just across from their wedding portrait. He walked up to her slowly and hugged her from behind.

"Good morning" He said softly and Areum placed her hands on his that was wrapped around her waist earlier.

"Good morning to you too" Areum said with a smile.

Haechan gave her a kiss on her neck "Are you okay? What are you doing here?" Haechan asked.

"Nothing, I was about to get an air outside but I was distracted by your mom in your family portrait" She said.

"Ah.." Haechan started before continuing.

"Wanna know something?" Haechan asked and Areum hummed as a response.

"We took that picture a week before my mom passed away. Growing up, I was always a troublemaker, so convincing me to take photos was difficult. But strangely enough, that one time was easy for me. I thank god every day for that because who would've thought that would be the last full family portrait we would've ever taken. My mom was the kindest person I've ever known and I know she would've loved you, Areum"

"Aw babe" Areum turned around and cupped his cheeks. Areum's heart ached hearing his story. She gently squeezed his face and looked into his eyes.

"I'm so sorry. That portrait is truly special. It's a reminder of your mom and that precious moment you shared"

Haechan nodded, taking a deep breath "It really is and I want us to create memories like that too, Areum. Speaking of which.." He hesitated, then continued.

"When do you think you'll have my kids?" Areum's expression softened at his question. She knew how much family meant to him.

"Haechan," She began, choosing her words carefully. "I think it's still a bit early for us. We have so much to figure out about ourselves and this dangerous life we live first. I don't believe we're quite ready to be parents yet, and I don't think I'm ready to carry a baby in me yet.."

She saw the slight disappointment in his eyes and continued. "But that doesn't mean we won't be someday! We just need a little more time to become the best versions of ourselves, for each other and for our future children. When the time is right, I know we'll be amazing parents"

Haechan looked at her, his expression softening. "I understand, babe. It's your body. I'll be fine whenever you think you're ready. And you're right, we do have time" He pulled her into a gentle hug, holding her close "We'll get there together, when we're ready"

Areum broke the hug, realising something "Speaking of your mom.." She trailed off "I need to meet Yoona unnie today" She told him and immediately started to run towards the stairs.

Haechan was confused by her suddenness and rushed to her "Why? Anything wrong?" He asked while walking up the stairs with Areum.

As they reached the second floor, the both of them stopped on their tracks.

"I want to find my mom, Haechan. And since my dad won't be here to stop me. I finally can find her.. for real this time" She said with hopes up, staring into Haechan's eyes.

Haechan pulled her into a hug once again "Okay, i'll help you with what I can. I'm positive we can find her"
