Mandarin grumbled as her father dragged her towards the entrance of the pineapple licking moons-blasted school. she struggled against his firm grip, and he gave her a stern look.
"Listen, Mandarin," he said, letting go of her. "This will be good for you. You'll make friends here."
The rainwing rolled her eyes and her scales turned red. I'd rather be back home training with Deathbringer, she thought grumpily.
Her father didn't exactly know about her training sessions with Deathbringer and would certainly freak out if he knew she was an assassin.
Parakeet looked at her sympathetically, before turning to leave.
"See you soon, Manda," he said, kissing her head before lifting off into the air.
The sun shone on his blue and orange scales as he flew away. Manda let her scales turn back to their usual gold yellow and orange colour. She sighed irritably.
There's no going back now, she thought glumly, and walked towards a purple nightwing in the friendliest way possible.
"Hi!" the nightwing exclaimed, and Manda recoiled. "I'm Fatespeaker! I'm not a teacher like the others, just helping out when I can."
Mandarin blinked and tried not to kill her on the spot, because Fatespeaker would NOT STOP SMILING.
"I-I'm Mandarin," she said slowly, and the nightwing thrust two scrolls into her talons. She stood in front of a scroll pinned to the wall, trailing her claw down a list.
"Mandarin... Ah! Here you are! First tunnel on the right, Fifth cave on the left." She grinned, and Manda felt her talons twitch.
"You're going to love your clawmates." Manda tilted her head at the word, and Fatespeaker seemed to catch on. "The dragons you're sharing a cave with," she said helpfully.
Manda cursed inside her head. Sharing a cave with others? Before she could ask for a separate cave, Fatespeaker was already off and talking to a bunch of seawings.
Damn it, Manda thought, grumpy again. Taking a deep breath, she ducked inside, feeling the warmth of the sun slip off her scales.
She walked towards the first tunnel on the right and stared around in surprise. The halls weren't cramped and gloomy, they were wide with firefly globes lit along the ceiling. Many things hung from the walls, mostly tapestries.
Fifth cave... here, Manda thought, stopping outside her cave.
She let out a gasp as she stepped inside. The room was huge. Three different sleeping spots were on one wall, scroll racks next to each of them.
There was a hammock, a ledge, and a bundle of blankets on the other. She flew up to the ceiling, inspecting things. As she was looking, a odd-looking dragonet with four wings scampered in.
She quickly camouflaged herself, assessing any possible threats. "Oh, first one here?" the dragonet sighed. "I hope my clawmates like me." she suddenly flew up onto the bundle of blankets, settling down.
"I'll bet they hate me as soon as they see me!" Manda silently gilded down and sat a distance away from the dragon.
"How do you know that?" she asked, and the dragonet jumped out of the blankets, staring around fearfully. "W-who's that?" the dragonet whispered, and Mandarin chuckled.
"Your biggest nightmare," She whispered mysteriously. The dragonet looked even more afraid, so Manda decided to de-camouflage.
"Just kidding," she said, and the black and yellow dragonet stared at her with wide eyes. "You're a rainwing," she said in awe. "That's me." Manda replied, and another dragon burst into the room. It was an icewing.
"Oh, wow!" she exclaimed, looking around the room in wonder. She noticed Manda and the other one - what was she again? - and smiled more than Mandarin had seen an Icewing smile ever.
"Hi! I'm Mink. I'm so excited to be here I should have come last year but Snowfall said no, so here I am I'm so excited to meet you guys oh I heard they have an art room do you know where it is?"
Manda interrupted her with a cough. "Too much talking, icewing," she said, and Mink stared at her in surprise. Before she could say anymore the yellow four-wing dragon jumped in excitedly.
"Hi Mink! Are you made of real ice? I'm so excited to learn about EVERYTHING here and I heard there's a music cave and I can't wait to meet our winglet and-"
She kept jabbering on and ON about how she was a Hivewing from Pant-something. Finally, she got sick of it and stormed out of the room.
I hate my clawmates, she growled. I'm getting out of here.
"No, you're not," a voice said.
