A new friend

Peacemaker awoke the next day to the toucans squawking their usual tune. Ebony was all he could think about. She's so mysterious, he thought.

I wish she could be my friend. He sighed half-heartedly and got out of his bed.

His satchel was packed by the door, ready for the next day. Peacemaker couldn't help but feel excited to finally go and learn at Jade Mountain Academy. The morning sun lit up the rainforest and Peacemaker felt his heart jump as he saw the dragonet that came to his store yesterday.

Screw that, Peacemaker thought joyfully, I'll invite her to go strawberry picking. And with that he rushed out the door, saying hello to her quietly. The dragonet looked surprised that he'd even want to talk to her after what happened the day before.

"I know you don't really want to be my friend," Peacemaker started, "And I'm sorry for anything that I did that hurt you."

Ebony shook her head slowly, blinking a few times. "No, you don't understand," she said softly, "I do want to be your friend, but... I just," she looked like she wanted to say something. But she didn't.

"Well," Peacemaker said slowly, "I was going to ask you if you wanted to go strawberry picking with me, they're ripe all year". (I know that's not actually true, but that the way it HAS to be.)

She stared at him, considering this. Could this dragonet really want to be her friend?

"Alright," she said finally.

Peacemaker smiled and grabbed her talons pulling her towards a part of the rainforest. "Wait!" She said as he went deeper and deeper into the leaves. She closed her eyes as leaves pushed against her face.

When she opened them again, she gasped in wonder. The most beautiful waterfall of different hues of green and blues cascaded down into a small pool.

Small strawberry bushes scattered the area like stars. "It's... amazing," she breathed, and Peacemaker grinned.

He pulled her towards the waterfall, then stopped. "Do you trust me?" he asked, and Ebony thought for a moment.

"Yes." she decided quietly, and the hybrid smiled again. "Follow me." suddenly he plunged into the waterfall.

"Peacemaker?" Ebony said, worried.

I trust him, she thought, hesitating. spreading her wings, she jumped into the waterfall, and into Peacemaker's arms. "Sorry," she said, brushing herself dry.

"I thought you wouldn't come," he said. Ebony looked around. "Wow." her voice echoed around the cave, and she giggled as Peacemaker flapped his wigs around and yelled, "Hellooooooo?!"

"This is where we can always meet". Peacemaker said, pointing over to some stone ledges that looked comfortable enough for beds.

"We could make this like our second home!" He laughed, and Ebony looked down.

My only home, she thought. "Come on!" Peacemaker said, splashing her with water from a stream trickling from the waterfall.

The two laughed and talked all day, until Peacemaker unfortunately had to go. "Im going to Jade Mountain Academy tomorrow," he said, and looked at her. " I'll see you after that."

Ebony felt sad that she would lose her new best friend already, but she was excited for after, which was when the annual Strawberry Festival was here.

"Okay, see you then, Peacemaker."
