I grinned joyfully as I examined my figure in the full-length mirror. I gained weight, not that much but not unlike before that I was underweight. My skin became healthy, as well as my face. I don't have eyebags or any bruises all over my body.
But there is one thing that I couldn't remove or I don't want to be removed. And that is my scar on my wrist and some part of my body. This is proof that you may be healed internally but not your scars but it's alright.
These scars serve as my personal testimony that I was once a warrior who heroically battled to protect myself. I can always demonstrate the extent of my strength by looking at my battle scars.
My eyes went down on my underboob. I can see the tattoo written in there and it was 'Memento mori; Memento vivere.'
"Remember that you will die; therefore, remember that you must live," bulong ko.
I slowly caress my tattoo while staring down at myself.
I recall how colorless it was previously when I look into my eyes. It was gloomy, empty, and completely dark. But today, it is brimming with delight and satisfaction. Along with my lips, my eyes are gleaming with happiness.
"Tita Momma!"
I flinched when I heard a small cute voice, shouting from outside the room.
"Don't be noisy, anak! Is-surprise natin si Tita mo."
May naririnig akong bulungan sa labas ng room ko. Mabilis akong nagbihis para tignan ang labas.
Those voices are familiar!
"Where's your sister, Abejuela?"
"Don't be noisy, Daddy!"
"Why?" He laughed.
"Sinisira mo ang surprise natin kay Maya. Hay nako, Dy."
"My, I was just asking."
My heart skipped a beat when I realized who it was. I was about to run as I opened the door, but I jumped from surprise when I saw them in front of me.
My sister was raising her hand, sinusubukan ata buksan ang pinto. Both my mother and father are grinning widely.
"Tsuprays!"
I looked down and saw my niece, raising both of her hands while grinning cheekily at me.
"Oh, my... You're here! You're all here!" I screamed. I even jumped a little because of my excitement.
Tinalon ko nang yakap si Abejuela na tulala pa rin. Narinig ko naman na tumitili rin si Amiela sa gilid bago nakisali sa yakap namin ng mama niya.
"We're home, Eli," nakangiting sabi ni Daddy.
"Surprise, baby!" natatawa naman na bati ni Mommy.
"You went home complete," naiiyak na sagot ko.
I felt my sister hugging my back while caressing my back.
"Thank you for not stopping from encouraging me. You didn't stop pursuing me to go back here not until I realized what I have to do," bulong ni Abejuela. "Thank you, Maya."
"He deserved to know everything, Abejuela. He's still waiting for you until now," I spoiled.
Siguro kailangan ko mag grind para magbalikan ulit sila? Hmm.
Humigpit ang yakap niya sa akin. I realized she's crying when her shoulders went up and down.
"R-really?" tanong niya. "But I'm scared."
"Don't let your fear control you, Ela. There are some times that you need to take a risk in order for you to be happy," nakangiting sabi ni Daddy sa kaniya. "If not now, then when will you overcome your fear?"
