One Deal Too Far

Cersei Lannister: You should have taken the realm for yourself. Jaime told me about the day King's Landing fell. He was sitting on the Iron Throne and you made him give it up. All you needed to do was climb those steps yourself. Such a sad mistake.

Eddard Stark: I've made many mistakes in my life, but that wasn't one of them.

Cersei Lannister: Oh but it was. When you play the game of thrones you win, or you die. There is no middle ground.

"And.. SHOOT!" My arrow flies from the bow, cutting through the air and landing in the middle of the target on the opposite side of the room, matching Anna's target.

"You've gotten the hang of it, soon you will no longer need my help!" My teacher, Pepe Auditore walks over to the target, and retrieves mine and Anna's arrows.

"Soon we'll be better than Jaime Lannister at fighting!" Anna laughs.

"Ah, but that is with swords. We use arrows, which are more precise and deadly if used with skill." He puts a finger up as he walks back over to us.

I had written to Robb three months ago, and that has been the amount of time that I have been here in Kings Landing, with no reply from him.

Three whole months with no reply.

"Well, that ends our lesson for today. I will see you the same time next week." Pepe says goodbye as he walks out of the room, leaving the door swinging as he walks down the corridor.

"We should leave before the guards come back, I've had enough of them following us everywhere." Anna rolls her eyes as she places her bow in the crate with the other bows, and stands in the door waiting for me. She frowns as she watches me put my bow away.

"Something hasn't been right with you for weeks, Mari.. what's wrong?"

I stop putting my equipment away and stare at Anna. "Robb." I say, shrugging my shoulders.

"He still hasn't sent a letter, has he?" She says with sympathy, and I shake my head.

"The Raven probably got lost, maybe I should send him another.."

"No. There is no reason to send another letter to someone that doesn't reply in the first place." Anna instructs, and stretches out her hand for me to take as we leave the room.

She looks both ways for the guards that were supposed to be on duty, and shakes her head at me, signaling they were nowhere to be seen.

"Come on!" She says, racing down the corridor. I follow her, glad that for once we won't be tailed.

Cersei had made sure we were being watched 24/7 and had set guards to follow us around, not trying to be inconspicuous. I try to keep my distance from her, but she always finds me.

I see Arya and Sansa a lot, and Arya always boasts about her "dancing" lessons, where she gets taught how to handle her sword, Needle. Sansa has finally understood how manipulative Kings Landing can be, and her wedding to Joffrey comes closer everyday, to her protest.

We run down the corridor, until we hear an unusual accent calling us from a room we had passed. We stop in our tracks to see Peter Baelish and Varys, coming out of a room together- looking sly, as normal.

"Anna, may I speak with you?" Baelish asks her with a raised eyebrow, and without a word she walks towards him, and he places a hand on the back of her spine and walks her to the room he had just left.

They had been meeting like this for weeks now, but she won't tell me what he had found. They just keep conspiring together, and Anna digs herself a deeper hole that will soon swallow her if she doesn't get out.

"Hello, Marienne." Varys bows, a common greeting of his.

"Hello Varys." I say, beginning to walk away.

"I believe I have some information that you may want to hear Marienne. Relating to a certain Stark boy." I stand still, faced away from Varys.

"I'm listening."

"Walk with me." He says, as he catches up to me. We walk side by side down the corridor, when he starts to speak.

"A certain Bolton has been to see your betrothed." He says, looking around for any guards.

"Can you guess who?"

"Do not play games with me Varys."

"Roose and Ramsay. They visited Winterfell to discuss your marriage with Robb, and Roose plans to give your father a large dowry so that he will allow Ramsay to become your husband." I gasp as he says this, but cover my mouth as we pass a stray guard. Cersei cannot hear a word.

"It really might happen.. And what did Robb say to this?"

"Obviously he disregarded it, he plans on marrying you, but Ramsay has decided that if he cannot have you, he will have your sister. So either way a Bolton gets a Fortitudo. And it's all up to your father who gets who."

"This is insane.. I trust you will tell me more as you find it out, Varys?" I look to him, and he nods.

"You have my word, Marienne." He bows, ready to walk away.

"Why are you helping me, Varys?"

"Let's just say, I owe someone a favour to keep you alive, and marrying a Bolton won't help me do that."

Anna's POV

I follow Baelish into the bare room, as I leave Mari behind with Varys. He walks across the empty room and to the window, his slow footsteps echoing all the while. He places one leg higher than the rest as he rests it on a step, looking down on all of Kings Landing as he has done so his entire life.

"Did you find out more, Baelish?"

He remains silent, glaring at the merchants below.

"If this is a waste of time.." I speak up, and he turns to look at me, his head held high and his hands clasped behind his broad back.

"And have you found anything out for me, little girl? Do not forget this is a double sided arrangement." He stares at me waiting, and I swallow a lump in my throat as I look at littlefinger.

"My father told Tywin Lannister that there have been disruptions in the North. Some.. disloyalty to the crown. The Northerners want independence. Tywin plans on acting on it within the year."

Baelish smiles in satisfaction. "Good, well done. At this rate you could become my protege little girl." I shudder at this, hoping no one ever saw me as they see littlefinger.

"Now, what about my side of the deal?" I ask, and he nods.

"Melissa Snow. Straight away it's obvious she is a northerner, not from Marhal, because of the surname snow. Since we've last spoke, I've managed to gather Intel from mine and Varys' spiders that a certain Melissa Evelyn Snow was spotted in an inn verging on The Wall and the nightswatch territory. What she's doing there I do not know, but more information is on its way here as we speak." My mouth was agape. Every time we spoke, littlefinger would tell me his spies had lost track of her whereabouts, and she would soon pop up on another side of Westeros.

"What do you plan on doing with this information may I ask, my lady?" He questions me, head tilted to the side.

"I plan on searching for her."

"Alone? This world is no place for a woman travelling by herself."

"I will take Marienne."

"And no doubt she will wish to stay here, where Robb believes her to be so he can finally reply to her letter."

"How do you know he never responded?"

He taps his nose. "A magician never tells his secrets."

"Well, I must depart. Thank you for your help, Baelish."

"No.. thank you." He says smirking in a menacing manner, as I proceed to leave the room.
