Cersei's POV
Where was she? Once again Marienne was late to help me get dressed, although that is not what will happen when she arrives.
I should not have hit her. I was shocked when my hand swiped across her face, but I didn't apologise. I apologise to no one.
I may of lost my only friend because of it.
If she comes in expecting an apology, she has a poor judgement of my character. I asked her to do one simple thing for me, how hard was that!
And now she thinks she is in love with the boy.
Marienne saw me in the tower, I know it and Jaime knows it. I've never doubted her trust, but now I fear she will tell someone. He wasn't meant to live! As soon as my brother pushed him from the tower, I thought it was over, we were clear.
I just had to look out the window.
"Stop worrying, sister. It will all be fine." Jaime says, with an air of over confidence. He is sitting on my bed, waiting to make sure Marienne told no one.
"How do you know that, Jaime? I hit her, I wouldn't be surprised if she told the Stark boy about us in the tower because of it." I sigh as I walk over to sit on the other side of the bed, running a hand down my tired face.
As soon as my head hits the pillow, the bed shifts, and my brother lays on his side to look at me.
"We could always have her killed, then we will definitely be in the clear."
"No, Jaime. She is, or was, my only friend apart from you. And how much hassle would it be to find another handmaiden that I can actually stand."
"Well the girl needs to know the consequences, either way."
There is a tapping on the door, and we both slide off the bed as I uncrumple my dress. "Come in!"
Marienne rushes in, stopping when she sees Jaime.
"You really did hit her hard, didn't you!" Jaime laughs as he walks up to her, pulling Marienne's head to the side, inspecting the light red hand mark imprinted onto her skin.
"Get away from me." Marienne orders him, but my brother continues to inspect her cheek.
"Jaime." He looks at me, and sits at the chair by my dresser, leaning forwards, probably to try intimidate Marienne- who has never truly liked my brother.
"I think you know why Jaime is here."
"I believe I do, your grace."
"Cut the formalities, Marienne. We know you saw us up in the tower when Bran fell, do not deny it."
"I didn't deny it."
"We have a proposition." Jaime concludes, still staring hard at Marienne, who stands tall with her hands behind her back. The room is tense as Marienne walks closer, nodding at Jaime to carry on.
"If you keep what you saw secret, we will not kill you, and will spare your families lives also. How does that sound?"
"How do you know I have not told anyone already? Do you not know my houses words?"
"Power from secrets."
"Yes. Power from secrets. You shouldn't threaten someone who could accidentally tell someone what they saw." Jaime and I both realise that Marienne has the upperhand, as she tilts her head at us.
"Is there anything else, my grace?"
What she is saying is that if she wanted to tell anyone, she would do it. Making her angry will just push her further to tell somebody.
