This chapter is from Cersei's POV. Hope everyone is having a good Christmas!
________________________I watch as Robb leads Marienne out of the hall, and smirk to Jaime, who sits on the end of the table. Too far away from me, I might add.
I could trust that girl. I think of Marienne as my most dearest friend, even if I do not show it. I have faith in her that she will be able to gather information from Robb, even if I do have to make out to her that the Starks are terrible people. The cost of information is nothing to me.
"My lady, how are you finding our Feast?" Lady Catelyn continues to try and make conversation with me. She is really trying my patience.
"Quaint. I hope we can see each other more, once your husband is one of my dear Robert's hands."
She looks at me, confused. Of course she's confused. "One of his hands?"
"Yes, one of them. I feel some Houses aren't as true to the crown as they seem, so Robert will need more help in seeking out the perpetrators." I have never trusted the Starks or the Tullys, and I do not plan on beginning now.
If the Starks are planning to rebel, I will have Eddard within my reach in Kings Landing, and his daughters. A bargaining chip, if you will. If they do anything distasteful, something may accidentally happen to poor old Ned.
"If you will excuse me Lady Stark, I must find your husband. We have matters to.. discuss." I try to make my smile believable as I leave my seat, looking at Jaime as I walk past and down the steps.
Eddard was seated with my husband, them both drinking from pitchers of wine. I approach my husband, my lips pulled into a straight line.
"Ah, my gorgeous wife!" Robert laughs while throwing his pitcher down, spilling the contents all over the mahogany.
I bow my head to my husband, as Eddard watches on.
"Eddard, we have topics that need discussing, and I would prefer to do them now." Robert is about to speak, but I cut him off. "Alone."
Robert mutters to himself about 'bloody women', as Eddard slowly rises from his seat and follows me to the side of the room, where little to no people were standing.
"I believe my Handmaiden has taken a liking to your eldest son, Robb. Maybe something will come of it. Also, have you decided to take the position as the King's Hand?"
"I have, my lady. Robert is my friend, and I would be letting him down not to take it. And I shall speak to my son about it." Eddard stands proud as he speaks, hands clasped behind his back, chest puffed out.
Confidence can kill.
"Good. Because you will not be the only Hand. These desperate times call for desperate measures, and I feel Robert will need twice the help. We have already named the other Hand, but are yet to announce it, as it was a secret for all."
"Two Hands! May I ask who the other is?" Eddard's deep frown lines show, as I take in his reaction.
"Lord Oran of House Fortitudo."
"Is that not your handmaiden's father?"
"Yes."
"But why? Does Robert know?"
"I have already said why Lord Stark. For the benefit of the King. And yes he does. I must leave you now, I have places to be elsewhere."
Before Eddard could speak, I turned back to head to my seat. Even though I trust Marienne with my life, her fathers fealty to us Lannisters is questionable, unreliable.
I can picture my father Tywin now when I was thirteen, telling me to 'keep your friends close, but your enemies closer'.
I pass the table of Theon Greyjoy and the bastard boy, where I see my twin brother Jaime as he comes down towards me.
"Sister. Meet me tomorrow at the top of the tower which is through the archway by the courtyard tomorrow, when your husband goes hunting, we have things we need to deal with."
"Of course brother. Both Hands have agreed to serve Robert."
A glint of something indescribable flashed in Jaime's eyes, as he pushes a hand through his hair.
"Brilliant. Two birds with one stone."
