Nell was never very good at first impressions but this one definitely had to be the worst. She lay spread eagled on their bed trying hard not to puke her guts up. Her stomach churning. Eric had run to the store to get groceries and would be back any minute.
The door bell rings it resonates throughout the house. Nell pulls herself up shuffling slowly to the door trying not to make any sudden movements. On her way to the door, the doorbell rings two more times.
"I'm coming, I'm coming don't have a cow." Nell moaned not at all sounding like herself. Her nose bunged up and snot running down her face.
Standing on the doorstep were two elegant looking women, wearing matching navy blue pantsuits. They took one look at Nell and their faces contorted into something that was almost sympathetic but disgusted all at the same time.
"Oh, We're sorry we must have the wrong address. We're looking for our son, Eric." One woman said swishing her grey-red hair around her shoulders her blue eyes warm and welcoming her smile a thousand miles wide.
Nell just stared how could two people with such elegance have raised someone as clumsy and goofy as her fiancé. "um, I, um" Nell stammered trying to find words that would even begin to describe the situation she was in.
Eric's mothers turned to leave."Your not at the wrong address." Nell squeaked.
"What was that." The brunette of the two asked politely.
"Your not at the wrong address. Eric does live here." Nell said raising her voice.
"Then who are you?" The blonde asked impatiently.
A car door slammed behind her and Eric came running up the drive grocery bags in hand. "Ma, Mom what are you doing here." Eric asked looking shocked turning his head from Nell to his mothers. "And Nell why are you out of bed." Eric said coaxing her back inside indicating for his mothers to follow them. He put the grocery bags down just inside the door.
"Now you go have a shower." Eric said letting go of her and turning her towards the bathroom.
"I just wanna sleep." Nell protested banging her fists weakly against Eric's chest.
"Not in your own filth your not." he said tapping her affectionately on the nose.
Nell slumped into the bathroom, he didn't relax until he heard the water running. He then turned on his mothers who were sitting politely on their couch.
"So what do I owe the visit." Eric said dryly, he and his mothers had not a lot in common and their unexpected visits were always at the most inconvenient of times.
"Can't a two mothers, not come and see their son." Chloe the red-head freplied.
"It's you Ma." Eric said sitting down next to her. "Not that I don't appreciate it but you two could have called first."
"Sorry, but who was she." Becca asked interrupting.
"Oh, that's Nell, Nell Jones." Eric murmured awkwardly, squirming in his seat. "She isn't normally like that, she has stomach flu."
"Yes, I understand she is sick but why is she here." Becca asked being ignorant.
"She lives here." Eric said practically spelling it out for them.
"Oh." Becca said her face in a slight frown it was nothing person it's just that her face normally looked like that. Chloe who was always the happier of the pair squealed. Shortly after Nell emerged from the shower room wrapped in a towel, looking a bit fresher than earlier.
"I'll put some clothes on and then I will properly introduce myself." Nell said feeling more confident in familiar territory. She pads into the bedroom and closes the door with a light click.
