Eric felt tough calloused hands tap him lightly on the shoulder. "Sir, Sir" a gruff voice said horsely.

"Uh" Eric woke to find a man in doctors attire standing next to his chair.

"You uh fell asleep, your friend the one you came in with, she's out of surgery."
Eric's rock bottom hopes hitched.

"Can I see her."

"There isn't much to see, she's sedated." he negotiated.

"Just let the man in Terry" the nurse called from the station. "he's been waiting for over 4 hours."

"Fine follow me." he said indicating to a door on the opposite end of the ward.

What Eric saw. Made him jump.

Nell was trying to get out of bed, wincing in pain. Her heavily padded cast restricting any movement was possible without pain.

"Miss Jones, I would advise against that." The doctor said.

"Shut up asshole." Nell said shifting her body weight trying to get out of bed at a different angle.

"The meds." the doctor whispered to Eric. "they tend to make people angry."

"She was angry before." Eric whispered back guilt haunting his voice.

"And you" she ranted pointing at Eric. "I have a bone to pick with you" she had finally managed to get off the bed but she took one step, and nearly fell flat on her face if Eric hadn't of caught her.

He pulled her up tucking his hands behind her head and neck. She kept lashing out, kicking and screaming.
"Isn't there anything you can give her?" Eric asked trying not to drop her.

"Not really" the doctor replied standing as far back as he could from Nell. "if the anger is self induced as you say, then she had to get better on her own.

"Nell?"

"Huh"

"I'm going to put you back on the bed now." Eric breathed sliding her out of his arms. "you have to stay here until your knee is better or the doctors tell you okay."

Nell nodded solemnly her anger seeping away as if being pulled by the wind. Eric turned to leave as he was sure after what he had done there was no use talking to her until she had been alone with her thoughts for a day or two.

"Stay?" The one word Eric had been dying to hear but afraid would never be. He sat down beside her bed in one of the armchairs. She reached her hand out to him and he took it. Feeling for the first time like everything was gonna be okay.

Nell had fallen asleep half and hour later giving the opportunity for Eric to make a phone call. He stepped outside the hospital breathing in the afternoon. Dialing the one person he knew could make sense of Nell's odd behaviour.

Her Dad.

Eric: Mr Jones?

Mr Jones: Yes, hello who is this.

Eric: Eric sir, Eric Beale you met me at Christmas.

Mr Jones: Your Nelly's boyfriend, correct. Why what's happened.

Eric: I'm afraid sir that Nell fell down at work and shattered her knee cap.

Mr Jones: How am I meant to help?

Eric: I just thought you would like to know seeing as Nell is a daddy's little girl. There is something else too.

Mr Jones: and what would than be son.

Eric: She's angry. Angry at me, the doctors, the world.

Mr Jones: Is she in hospital now.

Eric: yes Mr Jones sir

Mr Jones: You see Eric, Nell has a phobia of hospitals. Wait is she alone?

Eric: No she's got me.

Mr Jones: not what I meant get back to her right now when she actually comes to terms with where she is it is going to be Hell on Earth. You my boy have to get her out before that happens.

A long scream reverberates through the hospital as Eric ran back to Nell's room. She was thrashing about. Nurses holding her down trying to sedate her but having no luck.

"I know what to do" Eric yells pushing the nurses aside getting to Nell pulling her up bridal style and bolting out of the room.

As soon as Nell felt familiar arms enclosed around her she started to relax and snuggled into Eric's fast beating chest.

"Your safe now" Eric said plopping down on a bench just outside the hospital. Nell adjusted her leg so her giant cast was comfortable.

"I'm still mad at you." she whispered looking away at the park across the street.

"I know"

"Less mad now."

"How come."

"I've had time to think"

"And has it drawn up any conclusions" Eric asked shifting Nell's weight so she was sitting next to him.

"You were justified, to a point" she said still starring into the distance.

"I was an ass, your just afraid you will hurt my feelings if you say it."

"Fine you were an ass, a colossal ass."

"Okay, no need to deepen the wound."

"I still don't get why you were angry. I thought you would have been more sad than angry." She turned to face him trying to read his reaction.

"My mum was one of the two most important people in my life. I was pissed because she never got to meet the other most important person." he hung his head tears plopping into his lap.

"Who would that be." Nell said jokingly pulling him into a hug.

"You".

This took me ages to finish. But I got there in the end. I can't believe I have written 29 one shots. The 30th is next and it has to be big but I have no inspiration. So I am turning to you loyal followers.

PS: Whoever gives me the idea I go with will be mentioned at the end of the one shot.

Also one lasting note thank you lorijustineg for the idea for this three part one shot.
