Song: Something that we're not - Demi Lovato

"Well, well, what do we have here?"
Shit.
I froze in place when his voice came to me and bracing myself, I turned to face the golden boy. He smiled when our eyes locked, but was a gesture so cocky and fake that I felt disgusted by it.
I was currently on the bleachers, waiting for Jess to finish her track's practices, little did I think that football ended and that same moment. His hair was wet and I immediately knew he'd just showered. I cursed myself for being so oblivious and turned my attention back to the phone after giving him a quick nod.
"Hey, Adam. What's up?"
"Well, not that bad. You?"
"Same."
"Good."
He reached the seventh step where I'd been waiting for Jess to see me, but now I kind felt trapped. We'd exchange salutes every now and then, but he hadn't openly approached to talk since that day before the first match. And I'd been more than grateful for that.
A rapid glance around let me know there was no one around, apparently, and I prayed harder for the track team to finish and come. I didn't feel comfortable alone with Adam.
Cautiously, I eyed him as he lifted one brow to me, leaning against the railing. Why wasn't he feeling as awkward as I did? Or maybe he just hid it better? After everything we've gone through he can't just be that casual around me. It didn't feel right.
"So," I cleared my throat. "How's the team?"
He shrugged, uninterested. "Good, I guess. And the squad?"
"Fine."
"Are you waiting for someone?"
The sudden question made me narrowed my eyes at him. "Why would you like to know?"
"Easy, Ari. Just wanna know if you wanna hang out or something."
Hang out? Really? This boy is unbelievable. But instead of responding I winced at the nickname. "You don't get to call me that."
"Whatever." he huffed. "Wanna come or not?"
Why he keep insisting? I shook my head.
"I got plans, thanks. And by the way, aren't you kinda dating Paris or something?" pointing that out I was hoping he magically realized that there are other girls waiting to 'throw themselves at his arms', but he just waved it off.
"Nah, we're just having fun."
"I don't think she sees it that way." I rolled my eyes and kept taping the screen, like I couldn't be less interested in our little chat, yet he read it way different:
"Jealous?" I sensed his smirk and when I lifted my eyes my premonition was right. Adam's expression softened a bit along with his tone. "Come on, I don't know what we can't talk this out. I'm pretty sure we can solve it." I gawked at him. Was he for real now? "Why do you have to be so difficult?"
Me? Rage flowed through my veins at his statement and I had to bite my tongue to control a nasty remark swirling in my chest. "But you can be with any girl you want, can't you?" I said sweetly and he grimaced when his own words were thrown back at his face. Remembering that fight was hurtful, but I felt great confronting Adam about it. He deserved it. "And yet you're wasting your time with me."
"You know I didn't mean that. I was just mad."
"Oh, yeah? And you also didn't mean what you said about my parents? About me?" Wow, it was like once the dike'd been broken I couldn't contain the rage I'd been hiding. Bottled up for too long. I was on fire. "Or what you did with that Piper chick? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that I saw your tongue deep down her throat when we were still together!"
