"I CAN totally see it from here---there aren't enough prizes at the ring toss."

I let out an exaggerated groan at Caroline's perpetual nitpicking. "Gosh, Everly, you're the Miss Mystic Falls. Gotta keep everything picture-perfect," she chimed in with her usual sass.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes. "Nobody's perfect," I retorted, while hastily stashing some extra prizes at the maze mystery booth.

"Well, carnivals are supposed to be perfect," Caroline shot back, shooting me a pointed look as I glanced at her.

We were on FaceTime since she was still stuck at the hospital, leaving me, Elena and Bonnie to manage the entire Mystic Falls High School carnival. Not exactly what I had in mind for a fun Saturday.

I reluctantly admitted she had a point. Carnivals were kinda my thing, way better than the lame parties this town throws.

"Fine, fine. I'll get Jake to load up on more prizes," I conceded with a forced smile. "Happy now?"

"Ecstatic," Caroline replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, by the way, I'm getting discharged tonight."

I raised an eyebrow, bringing the phone closer. "Already? I thought the doctors said you needed more time."

"I'm practically good as new. See you soon," Caroline chirped before hanging up.

I sighed and shook my head, marking another task off my never-ending checklist. This stupid cast on my right hand was seriously cramping my style. Ugh, why couldn't I have been a leftie?

Balancing my clipboard awkwardly with my left hand, I made my way over to where Bonnie and Elena were stationed by one of the game booths. "Alright, ladies, last task officially crossed off my list," I announced. "How about you two?"

Bonnie piped up first, pointing to a heap of plush toys. "I'm hauling these goodies over to the ring toss," she declared with a grin.

"And I'm off to inspect the karaoke booth, make sure it's rockin' and rollin'," Elena added, already heading in that direction.

"Nice, nice," I nodded in approval. "Remember, we've gotta keep up that Caroline standard---" I began, but before I could finish, they both chimed in, completing my sentence in perfect harmony.

"---Or face her wrath," they finished in eerie unison, sending us all into fits of laughter.

The carnival was an epic hit.

I couldn't help but bask in the glow of my own greatness. Who knew I had this whole event planning thing in the bag? It felt oddly satisfying, stepping out of my comfort zone and bossing people around like a pro.

Of course, credit where credit's due, Elena and Bonnie were total lifesavers.

I snapped a quick video of the bustling carnival scene, shooting it off to my blonde bestie with a smug caption: Didn't disappoint, did I?
