Today was my first day of school, keenly I got dressed and ready, even before Tiffany had woken me up.
"Slow down there, soon you'll be counting the days till you finish," She joked. Words couldn't describe how happy I was to finally be able to go to school. I soaked up every bit of information, everything my father told me before he died. He was the smartest man I knew and I dreamed for the day I'll finally be able to be as smart as him.
I put on the ragged and oversized bag which once had belonged to my father packed with a sandwich, a notebook and a pen.
At school I had arrived before everyone and sat at the front of the room. My teacher's name was Gregorio Smith, a stern old man in his late 50s. He made me wish I had never come to school in the first place. Smith was known for winning the 64th hunger games.
As Smith went on teaching the class, a small boy ran in. His dark hair was dishevelled, with a smug look on his face which matched his glowing green eyes and tan skin.
"You're late," Smith said, "Take a seat right there," He pointed to the seat next to me.
"Hello I'm Caspian," He grinned down at me, plopping next to me.
I ignored him, I already knew his name. His father died along with mine in the flood but his family were known to be thieves and con artists, but no one ever said anything to the peacekeepers in fear and I did not want to be associated with that boy.
Soon after class had ended I went outside to eat lunch, I sat down under a tree with a good look at the dam. The view was quite scenic but reminded me of my dad, I wanted to be an engineer one day so maybe that way I could save people like my dad.
Loud roars of screams and yells drew away my attention from my thoughts, I got up and walked towards the commotion. Billy Pome was tackling Caspian to the ground.
"You thieving rat, my father will hear about this. And then the peacekeepers finish you off!" Billy yelled out the last sentence kicking and Punching where his fat little arms could reach.
"And when you're old enough, I'll make sure you get reaped. That way there won't be scummy thieves like you anymore," Billy hissed. The rest of the crowd jeered on at Caspian who lay dazed and confused.
My fist curled up into balls, as much as i hated Caspian I hated Billy hundred times more, I swung my fist into his fat ugly infested face, knocking the brute into unconsciousness. I aided Caspian up and guided him towards my spot.
He looked at me in thankfulness, "Thanks,"
"No problem," I shrugged, handing him half of my sandwich.
"Friends?" He asked
"Friends," I confirmed as he bit into his sandwich.
His face turned into disgust after chewing for a few times, "I'll teach you how to hunt instead of eating this prepackaged garbage,"
