I woke up early in the morning, just as the sun was beginning to rise. Cass was still asleep so I was trapped in his grip, I tried to escape but Cass stirred, waking up.
"Hey," he smiled.
"Hey," I replied back. "We should get started with training," We both got up and changed into surprisingly comfortable jumpsuits. When we arrived in the living room, Gregorio was already waiting for us.
"You're late," he said. It had to be his favourite phrase.
"It's 5:46," Cass complained, "How early were we supposed to be,"
"Come on," Gregorio said, ignoring Cass' protest.
We went down an elevator to the lowest level. Upon arriving, I noticed an almost warehouse looking environment. Weapons and stations placed randomly around the room took my attention. We were the 3rd district to arrive as districts 1 &2 were already making a start. Our competitors were strong and muscular the same kind Cass was. But I had a feeling that they could kill us with a single punch from the way they they were training.
"Lets start with archery," Cass said, running over to the station. We started training but I already knew that this was not my strong suit. Caspian had shot his arrows consecutively, all hitting the target. After missing the target 5 times, it had caught the attention of the careers that I was beyond awful at archery.
"Pick up a sword," Caspian whispered realising the attention I had bought to my self. I approached the sword station, picking up one, I had initiated a holographic sword simulator. 3 figures started charging towards me, slashing through their heads, they disappeared leaving pixels in their place. Above me, jumped down a figure, which I stabbed through the chest, another figure appeared behind me, which I noticed in the simulators glass reflection, I swung my sword across me, hitting the figure. Like this 10 or more figures charged towards me, all which I managed to pixelate. Caspian started clapping in the silence which was omitted from the rest of the tributes who appeared.
I continued working through the stations I already knew I was good at, such as plant identification, camouflaging, shelter making and to my surprise wrestling. The next two days went by with a blur and soon I was preparing for the rankings.
All of the tributes sat down in a waiting room on crates. I sat next to Caspian, "What are you going to do?" I asked him.
"I don't know maybe something with archery and combat," he replied. The entire room was deafeningly silent as tributes went out the room as they were called to be tested.
"Stephanie Browning," An automated voice called through the speakers. I stood up and went through the door.
Above me on a platform was the head game maker, Seneca Crane and other officials. They looked bored and uninterested, often chatting with each other. I headed towards the sword station and began with my strong suit. Upon finishing the simulator, I had realised I had captured the attention of the officials. "Thank you," I said, exiting.
