It started in the cold mists of October 20th, in a little town called Wakefield. The sun was beginning to rise over the tall Massachusetts trees. A variety of pine, American elms, elderwood, and much more. As the sun began to climb higher over the tall tree peaks a boy of 16 emerged out from under the covers as the shrill beeping of his alarm clock continued to beep aggressively in his ear. This is the story of a boy no older than 16, his name was Luke Gabriels and on this very morning the young boy had to go to the fiery pits of the underworld. Not hell, but something known as school. This is also the story of how Lukes life was forever changed by his run in with a mysterious well.

Luke:
The year was 1985 I was rocking my cassette player with it's sick tunes that consisted of only the best..."Queen." As Bohemian Rhapsody blasted in my ear I grabbed a piece of toast and started spreading my favorite strawberry jam on it getting ready to go to hell- I mean school. My outfit consisted of my favorite acid washed jeans with a red flannel button up shirt to complete my amazing look.
"Luke, can you make me some toast!?" My little brother Danny shouted from above the stairs. Our house was a comfortable 2 story craftsman house with a beige color and red outline fringe on the windows. It always smelled like fresh brewed coffee and pumpkin spice candles my mom lights all year round no matter how close to Halloween it is or not. Halloween was always a big deal here being close to Salem and all, where supposedly the witch trails took place. So, every Halloween all of Massachusetts was lit with halloween decorations. To jack-o-lanterns displaying an eerie glow in the night to flying witches cackling in the trees above.
"Sure thing Danny Diddums!" I hollered back to my brother as I popped another piece of bread in the toaster.
"I said don't call me that!" Danny yelled back clearly annoyed. You see annoying my younger brother is sorta my talent. Who doesn't have an annoying sibling? No one, so I have chosen to honorably fulfill the role for my dearest brother. I know, I'm so noble.
"I'm telling mom." Danny called back to me as I started eating my own delicious toast consisting with the perfect amount of jam.
"Go ahead and tell her, she probably wont do anything about it anyway, and hurry up Danny the bus leaves in 10 minutes!" I screamed. The truth was our mom wasn't the greatest. Sure she loved us and all but ever since dad died she hasn't been the same. She's always out at night drinking her sorrows away at some local bar she hadn't yet been kicked out of, the following days always hung over as her body reeked of hard liquor.
I looked down at my watch suddenly ripped away from my thoughts. 5 minutes until the bus, I quickly grabbed the freshly toasted bread from out of the toaster, and hurriedly smeared jam on it. I finished up my toast in a flash and yelled at Danny to get downstairs.
"Danny the bus leaves in 5 minutes we gotta go!!" I hollered.
Danny came bounding down the stairs. I gave him his toast and we scurried off to grab our bags. I locked the door behind us as we fled from the house to the bus stop.
We made it just in time as the school bus was about to leave for its next stop Wakefield High. We raced up the steps of the bus and as Danny trotted over to his friends, I quickly joined the seat next to my best friend Randy.
"Hey man" Randy smiled at me as I set my stuff down.
"Hey" I replied smiling back at him.
We have been friends ever since we were 6 years old. He's always been there for me when times got rough with my mum and I have always been there for him when he needed help babysitting his 3 younger sisters.
"Dude, you up for exploring the woods with me tonight?" Randy whispered imitating a creepy voice.
"Oh..." I replied forgetting he wanted to check out the so called "Haunted woods of Wakefield". He wanted to find a certain well? The story goes that on the night of October 20th when a full moon rises there will be a wishing well revealed to those who seek it. This wishing well could grant you one wish that was bound to come true.
"Come on don't be such a scardey-cat" Randy taunted.
"I'm not a 'scardey-cat' I just think it's dumb how much of this bogus story you actually believe."
"Well if you're not a scardey-cat then why don't you come along and find the well with me?"
"Ughh fine whatever you say." I sighed. "Your house at 11pm tonight?"
"YES! This is gonna be totally rad! Yeah 11 sounds good."
The rest of the bus ride was silent as I replayed my answer in my head.
What have I just gotten myself into?
