As we trenched deeper and deeper into the woods I started to get more agitated as our steps kept moving along. The bruise my mother left on my cheek started to throb and I was getting tired of the continuous walking. Eventually I had, had enough.

"Randy can we pleaseeee take a break for a littllleee bit" I begged as I put on my best pleading face even thought he couldn't see.

"Ugghhh I know your'e doing your puppy dog eyes again Luke I can practically feel the energy radiating off of them" Randy sighed, "But I guess a little break wouldn't hurt, theres a bit of a clearing up ahead we can stop at."

"Yay!" I cheered as we hurried up ahead to the open clearing.

The stars shown brightly in the sky as they twinkled above. The moon light glistening off Randy's tan skin and my pale. I took off my backpack and laid down on the soft grass. This open clearing was perfect. It was so peaceful listening to the sounds of animals in the night.

A soft chirping from a cricket off in the distance to a hoot of an owl. Randy eventually took off his backpack as well and joined me on the grass. His eyes lingered on the side of my face but then eventually receded up into the starry night sky.

We both just laid there in the night no words passing between our lips as a comfortable silence started to weigh down on us. Suddenly Randy interlocked his pinkie with mine and I turned to look at him. His face was beautiful in the moonlight. From his tan skin to his dark brown hair and green eyes. Making me self conscious of the millions of ugly freckles on my face, along with my dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. As I was in deep thought Randy started to speak.

"Thanks for coming out here tonight with me Luke, it means a lot." He said as he continued to stare up at the stars.

"No problem Randy Dandy, I always like going with you to places. What are friends for?"

"Yeah... I guess" He said solemnly "But really you knew it would be dangerous and you still came why?"

"I guess because I like hanging out with you and you make me feel like I belong. And theres no way in hell I'm letting you go out in the middle of the dark creepy woods and get murdered. Wherever you go, I go Rand"

He took a moment to smile at the familiar nickname and  glanced down at my face. His expression quickly shifted as he noticed the delicate bruise located on my cheek.

"What happened to your face?" He questioned, his tone and facial expressions a mix of hurt, anger, and sadness.

"Ohh...it's nothing don't worry-y about it." I stuttered "I just tripped-d and feel down the stairs, really it's nothing"

Randy obviously did not buy the lie due to my stuttering give away.

"Luke...did your mom hit you again?" He said slowly "I know she does that when she gets really intoxicated."

"NO it's nothing. CAN'T YOU JUST DROP IT?" I yelled anger coursing through my veins as I felt the heat run to my cheeks as I started to stand.

"I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE that you were okay." His voice falling into a hushed tone as he stood up next to me.

"Well I'm fine you don't have to worry about it." I responded barley above a whisper. "Come on we should probably get moving again I said as I grabbed my backpack and flashlight off of the delicate grass.

"Oh...ok" Randy replied grabbing his stuff and following me as I started to walk in the direction of the center of the woods were the well was supposed to be.

As we started to fall into an even walk Randy began to speak "I'm sorry about earlier.. I shouldn't have pushed you into talking."

"It's okay" I answered "I'm sorry for snapping at you." I suddenly felt bad for my earlier hot-headedness that cause me to snap.

Randy and I continued walking further until he said, "Hey, I know something that can cheer you up."

"What's that?" I asked curious by where he was going with this.

"TICKLE MONSTER!!!" he yelled as he began to chase after me.

I screamed and started running forward careful not to trip on the loose uneven ground and roots.

Randy continued to chase me for a good distance almost catching up, that was until I lost my footing and tumbled on the ground. I slid forward dirt smearing on my face as leaves got into my hair. I hit my knee on a huge root as I tried to bring myself to a stop. Randy raced over to me to see if I was ok.

"Are you okay Luke?" He asked.

"Yeah I'm fine" I replied.

"No your'e not your knee is bleeding!" He fussed as he started to take out a bandage from his bag. He carefully cleaned the cut and bandaged it up.

"There!" Randy said smiling at his work.

"Thanks Randy" I smiled back.

As Randy looked up at my face he started to burst out in laughter.

"What?" I asked confused.

"Theres mud smeared all over your face and leaves in your hair. You look hilarious! haha!"

"Not funny" I said even though I started to smile a bit as a devious plan came to my mind.

"Randy could you help me get the leaves out of my hair?" I said.

"Sure" Randy said skeptically at my sweet voice. he started to help take the leaves out and as he leaned closer I took some mud and smeared some on his face as well.

"HEY!" He screamed.

"Ha now we both have mud on our faces."

As I smiled he looked at me and couldn't help but smile too. He gently helped me up and as I stood I caught a glimpse of something glisten in the distance.

The well.

"Randy look!" I pointed over to where the metal well bucket was shining in the silver moonlight.

"We found it!" He chanted "Let's head over to it!"

Okay I smiled as he grabbed my hand and together we ran over to the well. The giddy feeling never leaving as the butterflies began to flutter when Randy interlaced our hands together. We stood next to the well and peered over.

Instantly the same eerie feeling returned my body as I started to stare at the well.

Why did I ever agree to come out here?
