Alone.
That was the only word echoing in my mind as I hobbled up the steps to my house. I grabbed the spare key from under the welcome mat and began to slide the key in place.
The lock let out a light click as I pulled the key out and put it back under the mat. I opened the door carefully and stepped inside...
The house was dark as no light seemed to stream through any of the windows on this cloudy day. I quickly shut the door behind me as the wind began to pick up again outside.
"Mom?" I called out. "Hello is anyone here?"
"Hello? Anyone..." I whispered as I looked around my house. It looked exactly the same as when I left.
I raced painfully up the stairs to see if my little brother was in his room.
"Danny?" I called as I creaked open the door.
I looked around his messy room. His crayons sprawled across the desk over all his drawings.
As I continued to search everywhere for Danny or my mom I began to accept the fact that I really was alone. I limped to my room and laid down on my bed.
"How did the well do all of this?" I began to wonder. As my mind began to slip away thinking of how all of this was possible, a tapping noise interrupted my thoughts.
I looked over at my bedroom window and just outside was a raven.
"I guess I'm not completely alone after all" I smiled at the thought.
I walked over to my window and slowly slid it open trying not to scare off the bird.
The bird suddenly flew into my room. It flapped eagerly around knocking some of my trinkets off the shelves.
As I tried to shoo the funny raven out of my room I caught a glimpse of something outside.
The white colors flashed in front of me as a boy dressed in all white stared back at me from down below.
His brunette hair blowing in the wind as the raven flew down and perched itself on his shoulder.
"Hello!" I called out. "Where is everyone? Do you know where the others are?"
The boy did not answer but instead smiled at me creepily.
"Do you know where everyone else is?" I tried asking again.
This time the boy responded with a slight nod.
"Can you take me to them?" I asked.
At this the boy shook his head and looked away and without exchanging another word he ran.
"Wait!" I called out. "Come back!"
I debated running after him but decided against it at the condition of my leg.
"That was weird" I thought to myself. "If I am alone then why is there a boy dressed in all white?"
I decided that I would look for the boy another day when my leg was in better shape.
I watched as the sun began to dip back beneath the trees, night was coming.
Suddenly, the weight of my body came crashing down as I really felt how tired and achey my body was.
My limbs ached for rest and my energy was drained.
I decided to clean myself up. As I walked to the bathroom I glanced once more at Danny's room with a melancholy expression. When I got to the bathroom I turned on the hot shower and gently stripped out of my muddy clothes. I neatly folded Randy's sweater and set it next to my towel. I stepped in the steaming shower the hot water making me feel much more at ease. I began to go over everything that has happened in my mind.
