Jimin drove his two kids to school, passing different people and buildings as they made their way into the city of Seoul.

Aera looked out the window, headphones in her ears with a small smile on her glossed lips.

Elijah played his Nintendo switch in the mean time, hoping it would ease his nerves. He was so zoned in, he didn't even notice they were pulling into the front of the school.

"Okay guys, try and have a good day for me okay?", Jimin said.

"Okay appa, love you!", Aera said her goodbyes as she got out the car, waiting by the steps for her brother.

"I know your nervous bud, I was nervous for my freshman year too. And if you think you won't be able to make it through the day at anytime, just call me or your mama okay?".

Elijah nodded, a hesitant smile on his face. "Okay appa", he got out the car, taking one more look at his dad before following his sister into the school building.

He felt so tense as he walked in, the unsettling feeling resting in his stomach.

Aera helped him find his locker and guide him to his first class, Algebra. It made him annoyed a bit inside that he would have math first thing in the morning.

"Okay bub, remember I'm always here if you need me or things get too overwhelming. Just text me or eomma or appa", she reassured, bringing him into a hug.

You would think he would be embarrassed out of his mind, but he really needed that hug.

Somehow, it relieved the unsettling feeling.

"Thank you, sis. I love you", he let out a small grin.

"I love you too, bub", she ruffled his hair once more with a sweet smile before walking off to her class.

He faced the classroom door, sighing before going inside.

"This is gonna be a long day".

_____

Aera was in her first class, the teacher going into a whole lecture about the syllabus and whatnot. It was usual talk for Aera, she had been through this three times now.

At some point, her attention span was ruined and she began to space off. You never knew what she was thinking about when she had spacey moments like these. Her eyes were wide, as if a deer in headlights. Jimin always told her she got from her uncle Kookie though.

"Aera? Hun? would you like to tell us about how your summer break went?", her teacher spoke, the attention on her now.

Aera came back to reality, clearing her throat slightly before speaking.

"M-Me and my family went to Busan since my appa grew up there", she replied, seeing her teacher grin and hum with approval.

Aera sighed in relief when she continued on with the lecture, suddenly thinking about how her brother was doing.

Her phone vibrated next to her, hoping it would be Elijah. But, it was her best and only friend Dae who had texted her.

"Hey! Wanna meet in the library during study hall? I made a batch of cookies last night if you wanna share?".

Aera grinned in delight, typing her reply with excitement. Her and Dae have been friends since the 6th grade, around middle school. Dae seen Aera was sitting by herself at lunch one day and thought to sit down with her. She didn't ask first, anyone would've. But that's what Aera liked about Dae, she went with everything. She had full confidence in anything she did.

If it wasn't for her, Aera would still be sitting by herself at lunch munching on carrot sticks with peanut butter.

When study hall did came around, Aera made her way into the library to meet Dae. She couldn't wait to see her best friend after the long summer break they had.

Over that break, they FaceTimed almost every day. Aera would send pictures of what she did or tried in Busan. And Dae would send her pictures of the days she had band camp and visited America with her family. She had quite the stories to tell the girl when she got back home.

Now, the two girls were sitting in two bean bag chairs eating the batch of chocolate chip cookies Dae made the night before. Of course, Aera ate her additional snack (it being the classic carrot sticks with peanut butter). Armani always packed it with her lunch, ever since she started Kindergarten.

"Aish, you might as well be a carrot", Dae scolded the girl mildly, despising the thought of eating carrots. She didn't understand the girls addiction, she never did.

Aera playfully rolled her eyes, the sound of a carrot snapping as she bite into it. The mixture of the carrot and peanut butter making her tastebuds tingly.

"I heard about these guys that got murdered the other day just a few blocks down from my house. My eomma wouldn't let me leave the house the entire day", Aera froze a bit at her words, already knowing about the murdering.

At the age of 14, Jimin told her about his job and why he does. He told her that he was indeed apart of the mafia and so were her uncles. Did she understand it completely? No, but for her Dad she tried.

Now, it was all crystal clear for the girl. To other people it may seem as if what he did was wrong, but she knew it wasn't. She knew he did what he did to save others and put the bad people away for good, it was basic terminology.

The only downside was she couldn't tell Dae about it, or else it would put her and Aera in danger. It did sadden Aera, but she understood nonetheless.

"Y-Yeah, yeah I heard about that", Aera replied, trying her best to be interested.

But guilt hung heavy in her heart.

__________

It was around lunch time, the time everyone finally had freedom and socialize as much as they wanted.

Elijah walked in, his lunch bag in hand as he looked around with big eyes. It was crowded like any other room in the school, this one being the biggest of them all.

He saw Aera sitting with her friend Dae, but decided not to bother her. She seemed to be having such a great first day, laughing and smiling big.

He sighed as he found an empty table towards the back of the room, getting out leftovers from last nights dinner Armani packed for him.

As he sat there eating, he couldn't help but feel lonely. He wished he had a big group of friends, people he could laugh with until tears could be seen in his eyes. A group of friends he could always go to when he needed to or just wanted the company.

But he didn't have that.

And God he wished he did.
