It was finally the end of the week, Aera and Elijah could finally walk out of the school doors for the weekend. With the permission of their parents, Aera wanted to take her brother out to dinner and then ice cream afterwards.
"Lamb Skewers or Thai food?" Aera questioned as she unlocked her car.
"Lamb Skewers sounds good", Elijah replied with a grin on his face. Aera could tell he had a better day. The rest of the week was better really. At first, he had lost hope about school. But, all he needed to do was keep trying.
As Aera drove, they talked about anything that could've possibly came to their minds. Aera enjoyed hearing her younger brother ramble, especially about his day.
One thing she did remember though, freshman year was always filled with the most drama. She would hear the most crazy, chaotic stories. Some made her confused or laugh until she was crying. It surprised her how much the boy would know from just one day of school, he was very attentive with the people around him.
They were now sitting down in a small restaurant, eating a big portion of lamb skewers among themselves. They talked here and there, but the sound of food being chewed and drinks being slurped through straws filled the air.
"Ah, mama texted us" Aera said, a phone chiming next to her. "She said to make sure we save her and Appa some" she laughed, her brother joining her.
She replied a big smile, making sure to add a red heart at the end.
She glanced at her brother who was seating across from him. He was chewing food mindlessly, his doe eyes admiring the small establishment.
"Hey bub, I wanna tell you something...but it has to stay between you and me okay?" Elijah nodded obediently at his older sister, giving her his full attention.
She cleared her throat, setting down her chopsticks to calm her nerves. "You know what Appa does for his job right?" Elijah thought for a moment, but remembered quickly and nodded.
"Appa gets rid of the bad people to keep the good ones safe", he replied.
"Yes" she chuckled. "That's what he does, but...I wanna do the same thing too. I am getting older and I think I'm ready for that".
Elijah looked at her with a stunned expression, but nonetheless supportive.
"I support you sis, I always have" he replied. "Just...be careful. Appa told us that it affected him a lot growing up, and not in a good way. I don't want that to happen to you either".
"That's only because his Appa forced him to do this, Elijah. This is something I truly want to do, there's nothing else I'd wanna do. I want to save people, even if it means risking my life".
"But eomma and Appa still think you wanna do ballet professionally".
Aera sighed at that. "I know, I just have to figure out how to tell them", she had thought of ways to tell them and even practiced what to say.
But, her courage was the only that stopped her. How would her parents even react to this news?
"I could be there with you, you know....when you tell them", Elijah offered, more insisting really. She always there for him, now he wanted to be there for her. This was important to her, it was her future they were talking about.
