All eyes were on her as she released her fingers from her dress, letting it sit back back against her ankles now that she had finished climbing the steps to the throne room.
There was an audience of Knights, Lords and other important people who had come to get a glimpse of the three handsome bachelors who had journeyed all this way.
The Princess walked slowly and carefully down the carpet, only days before having done the same route towards her Father when he had told her she was to make herself useful to him.
The crowd bowed their heads towards the Princess, trying to avert their gaze unsuccessfully. The three Princes who were stood by the King, doing the same by protocol.
She was beautiful in an unconventional way. She had inherited her Mother's blue eyes, but her Father's dark and full hair, which, in some lights, would change colour with a tint of red. Her skin was like silk, fair and unblemished due to the Northern weather not providing a great deal of warmth, and she had a full and desirable figure.
Princess Loretta had never been short of admirers. But she had never even entertained the idea of them before now. Until she was told that she absolutely had to, she would have done nothing of the sort.
She thought about her Father holding off this long to wed her, wondering if it was shame of her behaviour and demeanour or whether it was a form of disguised kindness, allowing her to have as long a childhood as she could.
She knew, deep down, it was the former.
The Princess curtsied in front of her Father, bowing to the three men with her head as she waited patiently to be spoken to. Quill was by her side, a disgruntled look on his face. She supposed he did not think any of the three were good enough for her.
"Ah, there is my Dear Daughter!" The King cheers in his false, jovial tone.
The Princess wants to roll her eyes, but instead she bit her tongue. She was acutely aware of how the three men were regarding her now, looking her up and down like she was a prize to be won, their thoughts written all over their faces.
She gave her best smile but she knew it did not quite meet the corner of her eyes.
"This is the Princess Loretta. As you can see she is fair of face, no doubt a result from my ravishing genetics!" He joked again, and Prince Laufeyson and Prince Rogers laughed along, however Prince Barnes remained stoic.
"She is nineteen years of age, untouched by all accounts and capable of bearing heirs to the throne. She will serve any of you greatly I have no doubt." The King continued, Loretta not missing the way he said served again as he narrowed his eyes at her.
She could tell he was nervous that she would act out and bring shame to him in this moment. She liked that he was on edge, awaiting her to explode at any minute.
