The Princess could not accept her best friend, her sister, had gone.
She would not have left her, willingly, would she? Especially without letting her father know where she was going.
But she had been bound to the servant quarters, not permitted to wander, perhaps she had found employment in a local town somewhere, like she used to before she worked at the castle. Loretta highly doubted it, but it was better than letting her mind entertain the alternative.
At breakfast that day, Prince Loki had posed a theory that perhaps Lady Maximoff was simply jealous of all the attention Loretta was accumulating.
She had nearly plunged the fork she held within her grasp into his neck at that suggestion.
He had remained uncharacteristically non-verbal throughout the rest of the meal.
The King had ordered her to stay behind after the Princes had gone out to finish another search for the morning.
She swallowed a large lump in her throat as her Father gazed down at her.
He looked tired.
Both body and soul.
Loretta saw for the first time flickers of his old age truly showing. She knew he was still dominating in spirit and mind, but his body was beginning to show signs of slowing down. She had not noticed it before now. The crinkles around his eyes drawing deeper, the grey that flickered through his facial hair and danced across his scalp.
King Anthony Stark was losing his power.
Brushing aside those thoughts, she looked up at the King with weary eyes. She had not slept for the last few days since Wanda had vanished.
She blamed herself greatly. She should have been there to meet her.
Perhaps Wanda was mad at her.
The King cleared his throat, capturing her attention which had drifted once more.
"Princess, I am sorry we have not yet found Miss Maximoff, but you still have duties to attend to. Now more than ever." He began.
She felt her chest tighten at the words, the way he was going to give her a speech about honor and duty, it was enough to make her sick at a time like this.
She raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue, knowing she should not speak unless spoken to. Lest she wanted another mark adorning her skin.
"We will locate her. I am sure she is fine and we will get news of her soon. However, we are running out of time for you to make a decision here. You need to be focused daughter, and keep the bigger picture at the forefront of your mind now." His words were a warning.
