The Princess was not permitted to eat breakfast with the princes once more that morning.
She expected nothing less.
Her Father was still maddened and he had yet to confront her about it. She was unsure he would though, unless he summoned her. When he was angry he usually did not want her presence around him.
He had taken the Princes out hunting for the day, to show them the surrounding areas to the castle and likely boast of his skills with weaponry. Loretta had no doubt he also wanted to see what the Princes themselves were capable of.
She had never understood hunting. Although Loretta enjoyed her sword fighting and sportsmanship, targeting a creature that had no idea was in the game did not sound fair to her. Loretta believed it was usually a competition to measure manhood. And it bored her greatly.
Luckily, it meant she had a day without the King around.
She had spent the morning tending to her horses, braiding their manes and helping the servants to clean out their stables much to their attempts to persuade her otherwise. What use was claiming an animal as your own if you were not willing to accept all parts of its care? It made no difference to her that she was a Princess.
Sometimes, when she was alone with her thoughts, she wondered what she would be in this world had she not been born into royalty.
She longed for anonymity, to have no pressure on her achievements in life, to be an individual, with wants, needs and desires.
She wondered what it was like to have a mother. A female guiding presence to nurture and protect and be the deflection of the cruelty of Fathers.
This thought made her too sad to entertain for too long.
As the Princess began to adjust the saddle on Rocket, Quill cleared his throat from lingering nearby.
"Going somewhere Princess?" He asked, his eyebrows frowning.
She nodded, not giving him a chance to object.
"I wish to go into town. I am in my casual clothing. I can blend in. I desire to be normal Quill. Just for a little while. I want to be amongst my people, not sit in an ivory tower observing life. I long to be part of it." She said the last part quietly, a wistfulness in her tone that made it hard to argue.
Quill sighed as he stroked Groot's face, the horse nuzzling into his armour gratefully.
The Princess busied herself in her actions, silently praying Quill did not stop her.
He gave a look of exasperation.
"Princess. I do not think this is a good idea. I know you do not like that when I speak that phrase however, and you usually will do the opposite." He gave a small smile.
