"Elliana, do me a favor and put your hand on my stomach." Kara asked me. "You too, California."
California and I both went over to Kara and laid our hands on her bare stomach.
"Now, wait for it." She said, chuckling.
After a few seconds, I feel nothing.
"Kara," California sighs, "I feel noth-"
Kick.
Kick.
Kick.
"Ok, what the fuck was that?" California yelled.
"It was a kick, silly." Kara chuckled, rubbing her stomach as we took our hands off. "And don't cuss around my child."
Really, Kara?
"We all know you cussed around children at her age too, Kara." I said. "Forget her age. You still do."
"I have tried to back off but it's so difficult." She said, exasperatedly. "This kid eats what I eat. They hear what I hear. They hear what I say."
"They?" I ask.
"I don't want to refer to my kid as an object and say 'it'." She said. "Can we go shopping? I don't fit into jeans anymore. I'm gaining weight, Ellie!" She was on the verge of tears. "I'm a fat pig!"
Oh, not this.
Aw, shit.
"Kara, sweetie," I softly said. "Look at me, please." Slowly, her head lifted up to look at me. "You're pregnant. Weight gain is going to happen and I mean compared to other women, you have not gained as much as some have in four months. Your stomach is not fat but right now, a baby is being formed under it."
"I guess you're right." She said.
I know I'm right.
"Now, go take a nap. You look tired." I recommended.
"I am." She said. "A nap sounds nice."
Kara turned around and went up the stairs, careful to hold on to the railing, to take a nap.
"Oh, you're good." California said.
"It's a specialty."
As I felt a grumble in my stomach, I decided to go to the fridge but my whole day was ruined after.
Dear Elliana,
It's Courtney here and I have taken all of your junk food out and replaced it with healthy meals as you have noticed.
Have a great day and enjoy your salad!
-Courtney
No, I will not have a great freaking day.
My Chick Filet is gone.
As I was eating a salad, my phone started ringing.
"Hello?" I asked.
"You and Colton can go, Elliana." Jane said.
"What are you talking about?" I put my fork on the counter and resumed listening to Jane.
"You and Colton can go visit Brendan but the catch is that you have to do it today because your other days are scheduled and today is the best I can do." Jane said.
I smiled, gleefully. "Thank you so much, Jane! You're the best!"
Today, at least.
"You're welcome." She said. "Now, I'll call some people to help make a diversion against the paparazzi and you and Colton can get in the car that Roger is waiting for you in. Now, go get ready." Jane hung up.
