Y/N awoke in the dead of night to the sound of screaming, shouting and a bell tolling rapidly. She hastily stumbled from her bed, running to the door and flinging it open, only to be met with a horrifying sight.
She could discern the glow of a blazing fire coming from the more populated part of town.
"Shit."
She quietly exclaimed, bolting back inside her house and grabbing as many buckets as she could find, tossing them into a cart along with layers of blankets and dragging the heavy load towards the flame. She arrived promptly in the town, driven by pure adrenaline.
"Run to our place and get some more buckets!"
A man yelled as hoards of people approached."Pass these down the line!"
"Y/N!"
"Y/N!"
Y/N turned away from the blaze, seeing Anne and Diana running towards her.
"Oh, I've missed you so much!"
Anne called out, hugging Y/N tightly.
"Me too."
Replied Y/N hurriedly, just as a window in the Gillis' burning house exploded."Stay clear, stay clear!"
Came the voice of Gilbert Blythe."Out of the way!"
"Give us a hand with the ladder!"
Yelled two men, running towards the house and quickly setting up a ladder to get to the main source of the flame.
"Coming up, coming up!"
"Hurry, hurry!"
"Get the buckets for Gilbert!"
A man cried out as Gilbert quickly ascended the ladder."Go, go!"
"Where's the fire wagon?!"
"Alright, let's go, let's go!"
Yelled Gilbert, gesturing for someone to bring him some buckets."It's on its way!"
People began passing buckets up the ladder.
"It's burning so fierce. Is everyone out of the house?"
Asked Anne."Yeah. That's the Gillis family over there. You see Ruby?"
Diane gestured to the Gillis family, cowering away from the flame, huddled together, clearly terrified."Hey, keep the water coming! Come on!"
Yelled Gilbert. It was at This very moment that Y/N realised something.
"Why are the doors and windows open?"
She asked eyes widened in horror."We need more water!"
Y/N quickly ran away from the girls, not receiving an answer, and not particularly caring at that point as the adrenaline had completely overcome her yet again.
"Watch out!"
"Make way, make way!"
"What?"
Queried Diana, watching her leave.Anne and Diana shared a look.
"It's the fire wagon!"
Yelled a woman as a horse-drawn cart pulled up next to the house."Stand back! Fire wagon! Stand back!"
Y/N ran over to her cart, retrieving the blankets that she had used to prevent her buckets from moving and swivelled towards a tree by the house, dropping to her knees to organise herself.
