(Hi! This chapter is incredibly short, I've just been struggling to get Y/N into the first few episodes, and- well- my dad is sick and is having trouble with his dizzy spells and tinnitus, and my mum has just incurred a damage to the cartilage in her knee- basically, she can't walk or move much, and it will take ages to heal, if at all (if necessary, she might get surgery, but it's only minor. It only happened this morning so we're waiting to see what to do next- Sorry for the monologue, just needed to explain my absence-)

After the town meeting, Y/N had gained some insight into what might have been causing her paranoia.

After hearing everything Nate had to say, Y/N was 90% sure the whole 'Gold in Avonlea' thing was a scam.

If it was a scam, it was very cleverly constructed, but there were a few clues.

Nate had failed to mention the specific company he worked for, or the independent company he sent the samples to.

Nothing technical was mentioned, whatsoever. No specific details.

Nate hadn't brought a sample with him to show the congregation. He had no actual evidence that his word was truth, aside from a very good, but easily falsifiable certificate stating that there was indeed gold in the soil beneath them.

Now, all of this could be easily put down to Y/N already being paranoid and her natural distrusting disposition, so she was holding her judgement until she had more proof.

Y/N approached Anne and Diana on their way to school.

"Why didn't you tell Nate the truth?"
Diana asked Anne just as Y/N came within earshot.

"I thought seeing the gold in the soil would be obvious- he thinks I'm a child. 'Pipsqueak.'"

Y/N fell into step with the girls just as Anne said this, her eyes widening.

"Wait- Nate showed you the gold under the microscope?"
Y/N asked.

"Yes, he did. Though my untrained eye couldn't see it."
Anne replied grumpily.

"What?"
Y/N replied, tone becoming more urgent.

"Well, there was some gold under his microscope, and he let me take a look, but I could not see it as I didn't know what to look for."
Anne explained.

Y/N went to speak, but Diana cut her off.
"You can't possibly expect to be his equal, Anne. He's an adult and a scientist."
Diana placed a hand on Anne's shoulder as she sighed.

Anne and Diana's conversation went on, and Y/N was lost in thought.

Once they approached the school, Diana went in, but Y/N and Anne were slightly behind.

"Anne, I need you to listen to me."
Y/N said, grasping Anne's arm and turning her around so they were face to face.

"If there was gold under that microscope, you would have seen it."
Y/N said, seriously.

"But, I'm not a trained geologist, I couldn't find any identifiable features-"
