~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Goodbyes were hard.
Even if it only meant 'for now' and not 'for good', you still weren't very good at them. And as grateful as you were to see them again soon (as far as you were aware), you didn't want them to leave.
You showed your parents the main rooms you spent your time in, like the library or music room. You even told them about Alastor's pets; but decided not to show them. Mostly because your mom would probably run and scream if she saw even one of those eight legged creatures, let alone several and a snake.
They listened almost in a conflicted sense of wonder when you told them about the Christmas party you went to, and how interesting it was to see him at work sometimes. Granted it wasn't often he let you see the entire side of the business sort of thing but when you caught a glimpse it was never anything short of intriguing.
You asked how everything was back home, how your neighbors and friends were doing.
Apparently the roof had a hole now, one too many storms weakened the structure. That was something they've had to deal with whenever it rained, which surely wasn't fun. Your former coworker Gretchen got engaged to that fellow she was seeing, they were to be married hopefully by next spring; all to name a few of the things that have happened in your absence.
There was so much to catch up on, none of you seemed to notice when a couple hours went by and Alastor came to inform you that dinner was ready.
Which, just like always, was absolutely delicious.
Everything was.
Pulling out some old favorite recipes he learned from his mom to newer ones he had begun making, if it was on your plate you ate every last bite.
Same for your parents, even they had to admit he had a knack for cooking.
Last but not least Alastor even made your favorite dessert, as a little addition to your surprise.
It was an interesting Christmas to say the least, but, you would hardly call it unpleasant. You got to be with family, and with Alastor too.
When it was time for them to leave, you couldn't hold back the few tears that spilled from you. Same with your mother and father. When Alastor's driver pulled back up to the house, they hugged you so hard you thought they were going to crush you.
Alastor didn't have the heart to push them away and urge them out the door when you were holding onto them just as tightly.
He did walk them to the vehicle, and when you weren't in earshot told them 'if they behaved, he'd be more than happy to continue visits here and there'.
You helped him with the dishes after they left, and after getting changed into some nightwear you met him back downstairs to retire in the parlor.
Standing over next to the little bar cart by the far wall, he watched as you had your back turned and poured yourselves a glass of wine each. Hefty pours, even though it was 'improper etiquette', neither of you wanted to have to get back up to refill them for a while.
Sauntering back over, you smiled sweetly as you handed him his glass. Al locked eyes with you, his gaze traveling from the wine to meet your own.
"Sit down. I like to look at you." He commanded kindly.
"You do it a lot." You teased, sitting down beside him.
