(TRANS) 150316 THE REASON WHY BTS RAP MONSTER CHOSE TO RELEASE A MIXTAPE
[MBN Star] The first quarter of 2015 is a period of time when idols suddenly have solo activities. Starting with SHINee's Jonghyun, After School's Lizzy, Teen Top's Niel, f(x)'s Amber and others have shown a lot of things, that are not able to be shown through group activities, with their solo albums.
The above mentioned seems to be within a similar context, but there is singer who previewed unique activities. And this is Bangtan Boys Rap Monster's story. He's not releasing a solo album, but a mixtape.
On the afternoon of the 11th, Rap Monster uploaded a picture to his blog titled 'by Rap Monster' to publicly announce the news of his first mixtape. A mixtape is a collection of existing beats where new lyrics are written, recorded, and then distributed freely.
In the picture, half of Rap Monster's face is half-covered in black paint with him staring straight at the camera and leaving a strong impression. His company said, "The paint symbolizes as a newly-born musician and rapper." They also said, "Along with the photo, the phrase 'You do you, I do I' represents the theme of the mixtape, establishing the message of 'I'm doing my own music.'"
He could be like other idols; releasing a solo album and profiting from the music. But Rap Monster chose to release a mixtape to create a road that only belongs to his own music.
Regarding this move, Rap Monster said to MBN Star, "To hip hop musicians, a mixtape isn't a special method. I could release a solo album but I think a mixtape would be better for me to fully express myself. Without being bound to be verified, I hope to express the original meanings of my thoughts."
He continued, "This is a mixtape but it isn't without an order. Just like the structure of a regular album, it's easier to understand if you listen along to the order of the tracks. I hope through this mixtape, I'm able to receive praises such as 'the music is very good' and 'it's something worth looking forward to.'"
On the other hand, Rap Monster's first mixtape 'RM' will be released on the 20th through domestic hip hop sites. He previously released his music video to 'Awakening' on the 13th.
