a/n: hey guys! This chapter is where the lyrics from Triple Dog Dare by Lucy Dacus actually play into the story. The first five chapters were just setting the story up. So this chapter contains references to the first half of the first verse of the song.
Chapter Six
A week passes. Kiba is my friend. This I know for sure. We've hung out not related to school, he talks to me before class, we nod at each other if we pass in the hallway, we snapchat and text. We're friends.
He's my best friend, my only friend, but I know I'm not his best friend. But I'm okay with that.
It was an alright school week. My dad was out a lot, so we didn't see too much of him. I had a math test and I got an A.
Thursday in class, Kiba asked if I wanted to come over Friday after school. He said his parents had to go out of town (his aunt is in the hospital, but I think she's okay) and they said he and Hana could have one friend over. That's probably why he asked me, because his other friends are kind of in a group together. So it makes sense that he would ask me if he can only have one friend over.
He said his parents would be gone Thursday through Monday but they weren't allowed to have friends over on school nights. They took two of the dogs and left the rest for Kiba and his sister to watch over.
I accepted and now here I am, Friday after school, at Kiba's house. We're outside playing catch with three of the dogs. Kiba has a frisbee and I have a tennis ball. They seem to like the ball better, but Akamaru mostly runs after the frisbee, probably because Kiba is the one throwing it.
We eventually go inside and play Minecraft for about an hour. Then we switch to the zombie game but we don't play for long. Kiba gets up to feed the dogs which is a whole process. So he leaves me with the game console. I play Minecraft for the fifteen minutes that he's gone.
"Hana is ordering pizza, what do you like?" Kiba says, stretching as he walks back into the living room from feeding the dogs.
I pause Minecraft and shrug. "Whatever you guys want. I'm not a picky eater."
"Alright," Kiba says. He sits down next to me and pulls out his phone. "She's gonna get sausage pepperoni, but I kinda like plain pepperoni. Will you eat those?" He looks back up at me.
"Yeah, I like pepperoni."
"Alright cool then we'll get the two." He types on his phone, probably texting his sister.
"How much will it be? I can pay back for some of it."
Kiba swipes his hand through the air. "Nah. My parents left us money for food so we're covered."
"Alright, well, thanks."
"Of course, thanks for coming," Kiba says, smiling at me. I smile back.
Hana orders the pizza and Kiba and I get back to the zombie game while we wait for it to come.
...
"No, they were totally hugging in a romantic way," Kiba says.
"No they weren't! She totally was into the other guy so why would she suddenly switch? They hugged because of all they just went through," I say back.
Our pizza plates are left empty and abandoned on the coffee table. Kiba and I sit on opposite ends of the couch talking about the movie. When the pizza came, we decided to watch a movie and picked the first thriller that looked good. We both like horror movies and agreed to watch a movie called "Sea Fever."
