IVORY BISHOP WAS SITTING IN HER CELL WITH HER CELLMATE WHEN THEY CAME. They had been taking turns throwing a ball into an empty trash can, keeping score as they went with a piece of chalk. Life was pretty boring in captivity.

They both jumped to their feet when they heard a buzz and a click, indicating that the door was about to be opened. The door swung open and a couple of guards were standing there, guns in their hands. They furrowed their eyebrows and looked at each other in concern since routine checks never involved weapons.

"Prisoners 315 and 321, please rise and come with me," ordered one of the men, and he must have been either stupid or blind because they had very clearly already risen.

Ivory looked at them like they were insane because there was no way that she was going with them. That was what the guards usually said when they were getting ready to bring someone to their execution when they turned eighteen. However, Ivy would not be eighteen for another three weeks, and Enzo, her cellmate, had his birthday in four months. "What the hell?"

"Follow me," the guard repeated, and by the way he was holding onto his gun, the Bishop girl decided that they should probably listen to him before they got shot.

When the guards saw that they were taking steps toward the door, one turned around while the other waited for them to walk through the door and walked behind them. Enzo leaned into his friend's ear with raised eyebrows. "What is happening?"

"I don't know," she answered with a shake of her head. She was even more confused when she saw that all of the other prisoners were being led out of their cell. So, it was not a personal thing for just her and Enzo. Only one thought came to mind, and she prayed it wasn't true.

They were killing them all. It made sense. They were just criminals taking up air until they turned eighteen and died. There was really no point to them, so why not just execute them early?

They were led down a hallway and toward the launch room where they shot off ships, usually headed toward Earth or to check something outside of the Ark. The Ark was the place where they all lived. About a hundred years ago, radiation took over Earth, causing people to take to space. They combined 12 different space stations together to form the Ark. They were all that was left of humankind.
