I walked out of the office, and the tears started pouring. I took my keys out of my pocket and unlocked the car door. I sat in my car and let out a loud scream. "How could you be so stupid?" I started my car and drove off. I had a couple of hours until Little L was dismissed from school. I just wanted to be alone. I didn't want to go home, and I didn't want to bother my sister or mother with this. As soon as I turned out of the parking lot, the movie theater was staring right at me. I decided to go in and look at a movie. I asked the ticket person to give me a ticket for any show that had just started. I didn't care what it was. When I walked into the theater, there weren't many people in there, about ten tops. I sat in the side row and, in the back, away from everyone. The movie had already started. It was about five minutes in. I didn't even know what it was called, but it was actually a funny movie. After the movie, I went to get a small pizza. I ate half of my lunch and packed the other half for Little L. He loved pizza. I got up from the table and walked toward the escalators. As soon as I stepped on and started to go down, I saw no one other than Madeline walk in, and then Terrence followed. I shot back up the escalator. I guess the years of being a child walking back up escalators really helped me because I made it back up in record time.
"Why did you park on the street? You should have just parked in the garage like normal people do." I said to myself.
I walked through the garage to get to my car. I went to pick up Little L.
"Hey, mom." He said as he sat in the car.
"Hey, baby. Buckle your seat belt." I said as I reached over him to pull the strap. "I have pizzaaaa." I said as I reached into the back and gave him the bag.
"Yes!" he said, so excited. "Can I have a piece now?"
"It's cold you don't want to warm it up first?""Naw, now that I am older, I eat cold pizza." he said, being really confident.
I laughed and said, "I forgot you were a man now. So where to, sir?" I asked him because I still didn't want to go home.
"Oh yeah, dad said that I could come to his house to play with Alize today. Can I go mom, please?"
"Okay." I really didn't want him to go because he always made me feel better when I was down. "But let me call your dad to see if he is home."
"He said he was going to pick Alize up from her moms and he should be there by the time you get there." Little L said.
"Nice to know that you have made plans. You really are a man, huh? I still have to call him." I said as I smiled. I picked up my phone and dialed Lamar.
"Hello, Adriana how are you today?"
"I am okay. How are you?"
"Good, have you found another man yet?"
"Ha, Ha. Have you changed your daughter's name yet? Anyway, your son said that you told him he could come over today, after school?"
"Yeah, I did. I just got the baby. I'm on my way home now."
"Okay, see you in ten."
After I dropped Little L off, I gave up and went home. I didn't want to run into Terrence and Madeline anyway.
When I got home, I cleaned a little and washed a few loads of clothes. My eyes filled up more times than the washing machine. Then I fixed dinner. I made salmon, mixed vegetables, and a baked potato with the works. I made just enough for Little L and me. I then called to see what time Lamar was going to drop him off because dinner was almost ready. He wanted to stay at his dad's, which meant dinner for one...again. That baby girl was taking up all of her brother's time. I made my plate and poured me a glass of wine. I headed to my bedroom to put my legs under the covers, eat in bed, and look at my shows. My food was good, and my wine was even better. There was a knock at my door, and I put up my eating tray, placed my food on it, and hurried to the front door. I opened it, and it was Terrence. Oh no, he saw me go up the escalator like a crazy woman.
In shock, I asked, "Terrence what are you doing here?"
He held up the wrinkled card I gave him in his office and said, "You left this at the office. I didn't know if you needed it." Then he smiled at me.
I smiled and then jumped in his arms and kissed him.
