💫Important Author's Note!

I pushed stalks out of the way as I walked through the cornfield, we haven't been walking for long but it feels like days have passed. The corn seems like it stretches for miles and miles. Nothing is going according to plan! This corn never ends! For all we know we're going in circles! At this rate, we'll never get out! If we can't get out then we'll never find the others! They could be lost too! Wandering around in this massive field of corn walking straight toward the demons! That's if they haven't been killed and eaten already... Ugh! we need to get out of here! We shouldn't have gotten split up in the first place! This is a mess! A huge sticky mess! They're probably bleeding out right now and I can't do anything about it. Or they're running for their lives and wondering what happened to everyone else.

What if they're walking in the opposite direction? We could be walking away from them! How are they going to get food and water!? I have the pack! If they get lost in here they'll starve to death! Or get dehydrated and die! Should I leave a trail of food? Maybe they'll find us that way? No, that's stupid. Why did I even think that was a good idea? Why did I think hiding in the cornfield was a good idea!? We should have used the car! Then we could have outrun the demons! Then we wouldn't have gotten separated! Then I would still be able to take care of my friends! I would know they're safe! AGH! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! I need to find them! Why are we doing this!? We should be searching for them! Not abandoning them! We need to turn around! That's it. We're turning around to find them. I don't care what they say I'm finding them. Opening my mouth to voice my thoughts, Anna cut me off.

"Did you know that when people are lost they should stay in one place so that people can find them?" She asked, "Most of the time when they decided to find their way out they end up getting more lost." I blinked a few times, why would she share that??? "I think it's the same way with trying to find people," Anna continued, "If you go off trying to find people when you're lost you just get more lost and never get out." Well... me getting lost wouldn't do the others any good, would it? "You know my grandma's dog buttercup?" Anna asked, She got lost once when I was around six or seven and I went out to go find him after my mom told me not to and I ended up getting lost because I had no idea where I was going. They had to call the police because they couldn't find me. Turns out Buttercup came back not long after I left so I got lost for no reason. My mom was scared to death and I got grounded, and the funny thing is if I had listened to her and my grandma none of it would have ever happened."

"Huh," I said, "You've never told that story before." "That's because it's embarrassing," Anna said sheepishly. I chortled, "It's not that embarrassing. I think everyone got lost at least once as a kid." "Really?" she asked doubtfully, "Where did you get lost?" "Publix," I told her, "My mom walked away while I wasn't paying attention and I couldn't find her. She found me in the cereal aisle bawling my eyes out." It was Anna's turn to laugh, "Really?" "Yeah, I was traumatized. She couldn't walk two feet away from me in public without me having a breakdown." "Oh my gosh," she snorted, "I bet that was sooo embarrassing for her." I nodded, "It was, she's always like 'You should have seen the way people looked at me. They thought I was beating you with how loud you were wailing!' Every time she shares stories that is always one of them." "I need to ask your mom for more embarrassing stories about you," she grinned. "Haha no," I stated.

"What about you Carmen?" Anna asked, "Do you have any embarrassing kid stories?" "Embarrassing kid stories?" he mused, "Gosh, let me think." Anna and I waited intently as he thought. I mean he's older than us he's got to have at least one good one. It'd be disappointing if he didn't. "I think I got one," he said, "But I don't know how embarrassing it is." "We don't care," Anna smiled, "Just share it!" "Okay," he chuckled, "So, according to my dad, I had the habit of crawling under locked bathroom stalls when I was around four-five, and one time we were in Walmart and I crawled under a stall and came in on two people doing the do and we just stared at each other for a bit and then I crawled back out." I stared at Carmen my mouth open, "Seriously?" "Mmh," He nodded. I put my hand over my mouth, "Oh my gosh that must have been so embarrassing for your dad." "Oh it was," he nodded, "Best part was after I crawled out I loudly announced that 'those two are naked' and then exited the bathroom."
