Trigger Warning! ⚠️ Bl00d, g*ns, kn!ves, de@th

Maybe I should have told Jack about the plan. Then I would have had one more vote. Will he side with me? Shit I should have told him! Ugh! Please side with me. Please side with me. He's arguing that must prove my theory! Please side with me, Jack! I watched them all nervously awaiting their replies. "Chase has a point," Amelia said, "We can't run away from these things forever. At some point, we'll have to fight them. Might as well be now." I sucked in a breath. No. Oh no. That gives him one supporter. I can only assume Carmen will agree with his brother because they're family. That would make the teams even. Which means Jack and Leo would be the deciding votes. Meaning, they would both have to choose the same side for one team to outvote the other. Oh no, if they both choose separate sides it would be a tie.

Curse even numbers! Why are they always present at the worst times!? I looked at the remaining three hopefully. Please agree with me. Please agree with me. Carmen sighed, "I suppose running from our problems forever won't do us any good." NO! Gosh darn it! Stupid family loyalty! I looked at Jack, he looked back at me, and I could see the gears turning in his head. He knows something is going on. I didn't break my eye contact with him. Jack held my gaze and gave a small nod. He knows. "Running into a fight with no idea how to kill these creeps is retarded," he announced, "I say we keep going with the old plan." Chase gritted his teeth and looked over at Leo. He was the deciding vote and we both know it. We also know he has no preference. He's not related to Chase and he's not friends with me. He's the only neutral party meaning he's the only nonbiased vote.

I could feel the anticipation radiating off both sides. Leo's eyes darted between both groups as he chewed on his lip. He must be weighing the pros and cons of both sides. "Chase," Leo said, "What happens to the people who get injured in the fight?" Chase shrugged, "I don't know. Does it matter?" "Yes," he nodded, "Your plan is a fifty-fifty what happens to the injured people?" Chase rolled his eyes, "Well I guess it depends on how hurt they are. If they're still able to walk they'll come with us, if they can't, they can find their way home." "So, if the plan fails, they'd be sitting ducks?" he asked. "No," Chase replied, "Distractions. They'd give us more time to get away." "What if we go back and they aren't there?" he asked, "Are we going to go out looking for them?" "Maybe," Chase replied, "It's better than having them hunt us." "Is it?" Leo questioned, "Because I feel like it's just as bad." "Oh, so you'd rather wait to be killed than fight back?" Chase sneered. Leo shrugged, "Maybe." He glanced over at me, "What's your plan?"

"We still don't know who Greer is," I told him glaring over at Chase, "That's what Margret wants us to find out. We already know how to escape them. I say we use that to our advantage instead of staking our lives on a wild guess." Leo hummed, "True, but how are we going to figure out who Greer is? We could walk around just as long doing that as we could hunting these things." "There would have to be some kind of tell," I told him, "They never get hurt. They never seem scared or surprised when the demons show up. They give away our location. Something that would show they aren't who they say they are. Like leading us directly to the demons." My eyes darted over to Chase during the last part of my sentence, and I saw Leo's eyes follow. "Ah," he said, "Sounds like you've thought about this." "I have," I replied. Leo nodded, "Luke's thought about his plan. Sorry Chase but you're outvoted." I let out a sigh of relief. It worked. The plan worked. Greer has to be Chase.

Chase scowled grinding his teeth. "Fine," he gritted out, "We'll hide in the woods." "We should get going," Ella announced leading the way into the woods. As we entered the woods, Leo ran up beside me. "I don't think it's Chase," he whispered to me. "What?" I asked confused. "I know that's what you're thinking," he told me, "I think you're wrong." "I've overheard some of Greer's conversations," I told them, "Beings from other dimensions can meet in something called the dreamscape. People nearby can be pulled in while they are sleeping, I have been pulled into several. They were talking about leading us in the right direction recently. The person who has been leading the group is Chase. We've been following him. He wanted to take us back the way we came. We must have overshot where the demons wanted us to be." Leo shook his head, "No, he's been insistent on killing the demons for the past few days.
