Brooke
The weight of exhaustion pressed heavily upon me as I trudged through the hallways, my mind echoing with the day's lessons. I scanned the corridors for any sign of Maylee, Paris, or Renee, but they were nowhere to be found. Instead, Jamal and Ramon, engrossed in a hushed conversation, came into view.
I approached them with a curious furrow of my brow, my tiredness evident in my voice. "Hey, what's up? What's going on?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued.
They exchanged glances, and Jamal leaned in, his voice barely above a whisper. "Grade Two Royals are hosting a party before the hazing begins."
"A party?, I love parties" A flicker of excitement coursed through me, momentarily breaking through my fatigue. "Can I come?" I asked eagerly, my hope riding high.
Jamal and Ramon exchanged another look before Ramon's voice turned apologetic. "It's strictly by invitation," he explained, his tone laced with regret.
Disappointment washed over me as I sighed deeply. "Ramon please try and convince them to give you extra invitations. I'm your best-friend remember " I smirked at him and he sighed "I'll try but they are really secretive and we were lucky to be given the invitation "
"Thank you if you manage to snag me an invitation, make sure you get ones for all of us, including Denisha," I declared planting a kiss on his cheek in excitement.
"Whatsup with you and the new girl?"
"Uhh nothing"I smiled
"Sure" he dragged looking at me unconvinced "what happened to Perse anyways. She disappeared in the middle of camp first year lol"
Before I could answer Jamal spoke "Have you seen the royal representative of the Pisces clan?, Celeste" he asked, his voice tinged with a touch of concern.
The question caught me off guard, and I blinked in surprise. I had completely forgotten that there were supposed to be twelve royals, and we'd only encountered eleven so far. "No, I haven't seen her Why?"
"Nothing, I just realized Celeste wasn't in"
" ugh I hated that girl, she was so mean to me " I wiped an imaginary tear
" well yeah probably because you pushed her in the stream and stole her clothes" Jamal frowned
"Oh and when you cut her hair off and she had to shave everything down?" Ramon added on laughing
"I was just entertaining myself. Camp was boring. Besides she started it by laughing at my teddy bear "
Jamal shook his head with a chuckle.
Ramon suggested that we head to the library, which I met with stubborn resistance. I vehemently swore I wouldn't go, but Ramon's determination proved stronger, and before I knew it, I reluctantly found myself stepping into the library.
Once inside, my restlessness kicked in, and I couldn't help but play with pens, juggling them in the air and idly fiddling with books on the shelves.
Ramon and Jamal continued to be boring by actually focusing on reading. They wouldn't let me leave either. My boredom intensified and I decided to wandered deeper into the library, the mere thought of completing my history assignment looming over me
Amid the quiet recesses of the library, I couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Every step I took seemed to amplify the unease that had settled within me. The ambient hush of the library was broken only by the soft rustle of pages turning in the distance.
As I continued to tread further into the dimly lit corner, the solitude of the place enveloped me. It was as if I had ventured into a separate realm, isolated from the rest of the bustling library. The sudden, unnatural silence hung heavily in the air, thickening with every step I took.
My fingers brushed against the spines of ancient books, their titles obscured by the passage of time. The shelves towered above me, casting elongated shadows that danced upon the walls. Cobwebs clung to corners, bearing witness to the library's neglect. My breath, now slightly more rapid, hung visibly in the air as I attempted to steady myself.
It was then that I noticed it-a solitary book suspended mid-air. Its cover was a regal shade of purple, a stark contrast to the drab surroundings. My eyes fixated on it, curiosity mingling with apprehension. This floating anomaly defied every logical explanation.
Panic began to coil in the pit of my stomach, its icy tendrils inching upward. Every instinct urged me to flee, to seek the comfort of familiarity beyond the library's gloomy corners. But my feet remained rooted to the spot, curiosity overpowering my fear.
The silence weighed on me, deafening in its intensity. I could hear the frantic thudding of my heart, the sound echoing in my ears like a desperate plea for escape. The faintest whisper of my breath seemed to reverberate through the stillness.
I was on edge, my heart pounding, when, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of that enigmatic, tall figure once again. My fear surged, and I couldn't hold back a startled scream. But before I could comprehend what was happening, he dissolved into thin air, leaving me in a state of bewilderment and terror.
I inched closer to the levitating book, my fingers trembling as I extended a hand to touch it. The moment my skin made contact with the cool surface, a surge of energy coursed through me. The world around me blurred, and a sense of disorientation swept over my senses. The world around me spiraled into darkness, and as my vision faded.
