Love is a four-letter word
Simple enough, right?
So then why when you say it
Is it paragraph after paragraph
Never answering the question I pose to you
A vague empty monologue that doesn't even include me
You wrote your story
And chose to leave me out of it
Word games are a funny thing
They often dance around the word without actually saying it
So I'll ask you again and again
"do you love me?"
And the answer will still be a overflowing of words
A poem almost
Only the poet doesn't understand that symbolism
As beautiful as it is
Can only be used when the
Clues lead up to
A concise answer
And so I stop asking
I stop talking
To you
I let you write your story
And wonder if I was in any of the other chapters
Did you write about the time we first met?
Did you mention the time that we had a fight in the kitchen?
Did you scribble down the messages we sent back and forth?
When we saw each other at the bars
All of our banter back and forth at work
Did you ever put it to pen and paper?
Or was I just a secret you kept?
Was my character too much for you to put into words?
Or was it so insignificant that it wasn't even worth mentioning?
The author gets to write what they want
And no reader can decide for them
Or rather the writer shouldn't be influenced by what the audience wants
However I thought my character would make it in at least one chapter
Even for a brief moment
A lingering thought
Or a vignette of a past time
But I never was
You chose to write me out of the story
Selective memory I guess
