[Third person POV]

Eddard relived the moment he saw his sister die, at which point he told Robert that he always brings flowers to his sister's grave when he can, as his sister was very fond of flowers.

"I swore to kill Rhaegar for this" Robert said after stroking the statue's face.

"And you did" Eddard said hoarsely.

"Just once. I kill him every night in my dreams. But a thousand deaths is less than he deserves" Robert said with deep rancour in his tone of voice.

"Highness, we must return, your wife is waiting for you" Eddard said turning to light the way back.

"Let the Others take my wife" Robert said bitterly, but he followed in Eddard's footsteps.

Following in Eddard's footsteps, Robert commented that he does not like the formality Eddard uses with him, them being almost like brothers since youth.

"Tell me what happened to Jon," Eddard said, subtly changing the subject.

"I've never seen anyone fall ill as quickly as Jon did. The sickness seemed to inflame his insides. It seared him from the inside" Robert said in a muffled voice "I loved that old man".

"I know, so did I" Eddard said remembering the old man.

"Do you know what was the cause of his death?" Eddard asked with a frown, for what he heard was not normal.

"He was poisoned by Lord Dayne's bastard son," Robert said in an annoyed tone.

"Why do you say it was him?" Eddard asks, remembering the boy he found in the Tower of Joy.

"The information came from Varys. Besides, in his lands is the bastard of dragons, Viserys" Robert said in an angry voice.

"Will they seek to overthrow your reign?" Eddard asks, for he regrets that another war may begin, and that a kinsman of his will die, just as his sister Lyanna did.

"I had planned to wait a few days before speaking with you, but I see that will not be necessary. Let's go for a walk," Robert said in a serious voice, and put a huge arm around Ned's shoulders.

They walked between the columns. The stone-blind eyes seemed to follow them as they passed. The king kept his arm around Ned's shoulders.

"I suppose now you will know why I have come to Winterfell after so long," Robert said, tightening his arm on Eddard's shoulder.

"No doubt for your pleasure in being with me" Ned said lightly, he suspected as much, but chose not to say what was going through his mind.

"Times are hard. I need men I can trust by my side. Men like Jon Arryn. Besides, I have plans to root out the traitors along with the last two dragons left alive," Robert said bitterly.

"How long will it take to go to war?" Eddard asks in a defeated tone.

"You know I need you Ned" Robert told him with seriousness in his expression, not answering his friend's question.

"Always at your command, your highness. Always." It was what he had to say, and he said it, dreading what came next.

"I need you in King's Landing, not here, at the end of the world, where you are of no use to anyone," Robert said as he stared into the darkness.
