In Winterfell...

Eddard stood naked in front of one of the windows in his chamber, with his wife Catelyn behind him, the furs pulled up to her chin.

"In a few days, we will be heading to King's Landing," Eddard said as he turned to her. Concern reflected in his eyes; there was a shadow of doubt in his voice.

"As Robb will stay in charge of Winterfell, shall we take all our children with us?" Catelyn asked with a cheerful smile, knowing about Sansa's betrothal to Joffrey.

"I will tell you and you alone, and you must keep this secret," Eddard said with a serious tone.

"Tell me," Catelyn said, making a promise by the Old Gods.

"We are not going to King's Landing just for me to be the Hand of the King, but to prepare the King's armies for war," Eddard said, his fist clenched.

"What war are you talking about?" Catelyn asked incredulously.

"According to the King's sources of information, Dorne will rise in the fight alongside Prince Viserys to reclaim the Iron Throne," Eddard commented, frowning.

"The Dornishmen won't stand a chance against the six kingdoms if they unite. Are you sure about this information?" Catelyn asked incredulously.

"Yes, I will tell Robb to prepare our banners by mid-year to depart for King's Landing," Eddard said, approaching the table and writing a letter with the orders that Robb must follow in two months.

"My lord, Maester Luwin is here. He requests an audience; he says it's urgent," Desmond called from the other side of the door.

"Did you tell him I had ordered not to be disturbed?" Eddard asked, frowning.

"Yes, my lord, but he insisted," Desmond said firmly.

"Very well, let him in," Eddard ordered as he approached the wardrobe and put on a thick robe.

"My lord, forgive me for disturbing your rest. I have been left a message," Maester Luwin said as he entered the room.

"You've been left a message? By whom? Has a rider arrived? I haven't been informed," Eddard said, sounding irritated.

"It's not a message for you, my lord. It says it's private, for Lady Catelyn. May I?" Luwin said, waiting until Catelyn nodded before placing the paper on the bedside table.

Catelyn broke the seal. She scanned the lines. At first, they made no sense to her. Suddenly, she remembered.

"Lysa didn't want to take any risks. When we were girls, we had a secret language," Catelyn said, getting up to approach the fireplace and see the message more clearly.

"Tell me, my lady! What did that message say?" Eddard crossed the room in two strides, grabbed her by the arm, and made her stand up. He brought his face within a couple of fingers' breadth of his wife's.

"It was a warning. If we have the common sense to listen to it," Catelyn said incredulously.

"Go on," Eddard said, looking into her eyes.

"Lysa says Jon Arryn was murdered," Catelyn said in a low tone.

"Who did it?" Eddard said, and he remembered who it was, according to Robert.
