"Do I look okay?" I stand directly in front of Vera carefully fixing the collar of my suit jacket. It's vintage Armani, has to be around two thousand dollars, thing I would never be able to afford on my own. I pretty much stole it from my dad.
"You look exactly like Dad when he was younger." She smiles motioning with her hand for me to do a spin.
Turning around I allow her to see the back and fix my sleeves while at it. "I'm going to take that as a compliment."
"You should, Dad was a very handsome man, still is."
"He had to, to be able to pull someone as amazing and gorgeous as Mom." I joke turning around to meet Vera once again.
"Mama's boy." She laughs acting as if she weren't the biggest daddy's girl ever.
"Says Daddy's little angel." I mock the nickname our dad gave her pretty much the day she was born.
Funny how the world works, Vera looks exactly like our mom but has a stronger connection with our dad and I look exactly like my dad but have a stronger connection with my mom. And our brother, Carlos, has a connection with both, he is everyone's baby, something he definitely takes advantage off.
"You are just bitter I'm Dad's favorite." She shrugs her shoulders acting cocky.
"You can have him, I'm mom's favorite so." Yeah, we still banter like two little kids. That's siblings for you.
"Yeah yeah, okay so, today is the day I'm guessing?" Vera points at my perfectly styled hair.
"It is, and I won't lie, I'm nervous as fuck." I mutter, unconsciously reaching for the gold bracelet that's always around my wrist.
My mom gave it to me when I turned eighteen, it was her best friend's bracelet, Miles, the man I'm named after. The man who didn't only save my mother's life but mine too by giving his. I never got to actually meet him, but I have heard so many stories, it's almost as if I did.
"You are gonna nail it, I just know it." Vera and I may banter a lot and call each other annoying but at the end of the day, we are always there for one another. "Let me take a picture of you, Mom said she wanted one."
"Seriously? I haven't won a nobel price is just a business meeting."
"Your first business meeting, as an independent businessman." She takes out her phone and snaps a picture before I can say anything else. "Not a nobel price but important nonetheless."
The most important business meeting I will probably ever attend, actually, or at least for now, if these people hire someone on my team and spread the word around about my business I will have one foot up the ladder, and I really need it. There are so many bodyguard agencies already.
"Now for real, what if they don't hire me?" I keep playing with the bracelet around my wrist.
"They will, if out of everyone they contacted you, it was for a reason so don't overthink it." She walks in my direction and takes my hands to stop my fidgeting. "You are a Russo, we are made for this. Don't forget it."
