She shut the door in my face

She shut the door in my face. She actually shut the door in my face.

I guess it's my fault for mentioning her mother, maybe I should have let it go, maybe trying to share the blame about what happened tonight wasn't the way to go but at the same time, I felt like it was the right thing to do. But of course, she doesn't get it because she doesn't know the reason I'm here — the reason her mother hired me.

What she did at the party it's exactly what I should have been preventing and if she did it at all it was because of me, I might have not made her do it but she was reacting to something I did. I went too far and now she is going to be the one paying the price. And I can't let that happen, I won't let it happen.

Thinking of knocking on her door to apologize once again I decide against it, I fucked up already, an apology won't change anything so I will have to fix this in some other way.

Picking up my phone I search for Valentina's name in my contacts and hit the call button hoping I'm able to get ahold of her before she sees all the posts about her daughter on the internet, but when the machine instantly says the line is occupied I know I'm too late. She is definitely trying to call Gianna but I know she won't pick up, not after what just happened and there's no way Valentina will let this slide so I change tactics.

Going down on the elevator I make my way toward the building entrance and sit on one of the many sofas in the lobby. Valentina will come by eventually to check if her daughter is home and when she does I will be here to try and stop it, that's the least I can do.

___

"Sir, is everything okay?" The doorman appears at my side, confusion clear on his features.

I have been sitting here staring at the glass building's door and trying to reach Valentina for at least an hour. He probably thinks I'm nuts.

"Everything is fine, don't worry. Just waiting for someone." I give him the best smile I can gather given the circumstances and at that exact moment the main door opens and Valentina gets inside the building.

She is dressed to perfection in a very expensive-looking Chanel suit and I wonder if she got ready just for this — who gets ready to go scold their daughter?

"What are you doing here?" She stops directly in front of me and I quickly stand from the sofa. It's clear that she is annoyed by my simple presence meaning that if I want this to work I have to pull the performance of a lifetime.

"I tried to call you." Fixing my jacket I try to appear like I have everything under control. "I'm guessing you already saw all the articles and everything that's on the internet about what happened tonight and I would like to talk about it with you before you talk to your daughter." I haven't seen those articles I'm talking about just yet but knowing society, they are there.

"I don't think there's something you could say that would fix the hundredth of pictures of my daughter that are currently viral online. Or the article's speculating about her." If looks could kill I would be six feet under, hell, everyone in this building would be because it's not only her gaze but her whole aura that screams murder.
