"I'm so sorry for my daughter's behavior, this is not how I wanted this to go. Please, forgive her." My mother walks in his direction, a tight smile on her lips.
But I know her well enough to know that she isn't sorry, not even a little bit, she is just ashamed.
"It's fine, really." The guy whose name is apparently Miles mutters, and it actually looks like he truly means it which I don't understand. I was a bitch, I hoped that would be enough to make him rethink this but seems like it isn't.
"Mom, we have to look for someone else, he is way too young. This will never work." I walk towards my mother but instead of facing her I face him, wanting to let him know that this will never happen but when I'm about to speak to him I get sidetracked by the way he is looking at me so... attentively? I don't know.
He has green eyes but not like mine, his are darker but at the same time they hold a certain warmth within them that makes you want to stare. His light brown hair is styled back except for some loose waves that seem to have lost their way and now fall over his forehead, and he has the most perfect jaw and cheekbone combination I have ever seen, and trust me, I have seen a lot.
I hate to admit this but he is a very handsome man... actually maybe beautiful is the right word to describe him.
And he sure knows how to hold eye contact.
Pulling myself together I stop my staring and finally speak. "Listen, I'm sorry we made you lose your time but this won't happen," I tell him clearly, letting him know that there's no way I will accept him as my bodyguard.
But he doesn't say anything he just stares.
"Gianna, it's happening whether you like it or not. He already signed the contract and I already paid him." My mother is quick to add. "I told you he was the best option available."
"Best option available? He is my same fucking age, there's no way he has any actual experience, Mom. Are you being serious right now?" I forget about him and focus all my attention on my mother.
When she told me he was young I expected a thirty-something-year-old guy, not a college student. He probably knows as much about protecting someone as I do. And I am aware that I shouldn't be paying all this shit with him when it's my mother's fault he is here but I can't help it.
"Yes, Gianna, if I thought he wasn't the best option I would have kept looking. He is exactly what you need, a professional who will not only be able to protect you but also understand the kind of life you live and how difficult it is for a young woman to live like this." My mother defends him as he stands behind us in silence. "It will only be a few months, until Eaton can come back."
"This has to be a joke, I honestly can't believe it." I huff going towards the chair in front of Thomas's desk to take my bag.
Running away feels childish but this whole situation is already ridiculous so I decide to ignore it and go through with it.
