"Sit down please

"Sit down please." Valentina points at the black leather sofas near the window as both she and Thomas make their way to them.

"We talked on the phone, Thomas Walker." He goes in for a handshake before sitting down. His tone a lot warmer than Valentina's.

"Miles Russo, a pleasure." I shake his hand.

"Well, first of all, we want to thank you for coming to us, I know it's a little unusual to do this this way but Ms Marino is a very busy woman." Thomas sounds apologetic but Valentina doesn't seem to care at all.

"It's fine, don't worry," I assure him.

"Well then let's start, as I told you over the phone, my client here is interested in hiring your services, but not for her exactly, it will be for her daughter. Would that be a problem?" Thomas explains while Ms Marino simply listens, staring at me up and down.

"Not at all, it can be arranged but I will have to meet her too so I can ask her some questions, I need to understand how the person we will be protecting works, and also figure out their personality to try and find the perfect match for them. I don't only want my clients to feel safe but also comfortable with my team." I don't know who I should be talking to exactly so I move my attention from Thomas to Valentina landing on her at last.

She tilts her head to the side apparently not finished with her staring and then she smiles tightly before speaking. "You look exactly like your father."

"You know my father?" I ask in shock, I didn't see this coming.

"Oh honey, everyone my age knows your father. His case was huge, it was on the news every day for weeks and you are the spitting image of him. It's incredible." Her gaze moves over my every feature.

"Is it going to be a problem?" I ask carefully.

It's not the first time this has occurred, it happened to my uncle too. Once upon a time, the Russos were known for well, not very ethical or legal activities. My uncle fought hard to bury our past but there's always something left that resurfaces over time.

"Oh, not in the slightest, if you are here today it's because of your family history." She smiles crossing her right leg over her left one.

My family history?

"I'm a little confused." I look at Thomas for help but he doesn't give me anything.

"I think maybe you didn't understand our proposal, I don't want to hire someone from your team, I want to hire you." She smiles again but there's nothing nice about it.

And now I'm truly confused.

"I'm sorry but I don't work as a bodyguard, I just coordinate everything." I try to be as professional as possible still not fully understanding the situation.

"You don't have a bodyguard license?"

"No, I do, I'm trained, but mainly I did it to understand the business properly and everything it implies not to actually work as a bodyguard myself. My men are highly trained and have way more experience than I do, trust me when I tell you that they are a way better option than me." I look directly into her eyes hoping this will be enough to make her understand I'm not what she is looking for.
