It had been four days. Four long days since the Wingfeathers began their journey to find the First Well in hopes of its water bringing their beloved family member, Janner, back to life. He sacrificed his life to save his brother's and many other strangers lives. "Are you sure you know where we are?" Nia, Janner, Kalmar, and Leeli's mother asked. "I know the well is here somewhere! I saw it once! I know where it is!" Kalmar replied helplessly. Artham, the children's uncle walked up to Kal and put his hand on his shoulder. "Kal, I don't think-" "No! I know where it is! I- I- I've been there! It has to be here! I-It has to be!" Kal screamed. This had not been the first time someone has asked where they were. Kalmar wanted to find the well. Although deep in his heart, he was giving up. All of a sudden, he burst into tears an fell to his knees. "I am so sorry Janner! I thought I could find it! I'm so, so sorry!" He cried as he looked at his brother's body, covered in cloth. "I am so sorry." He whispered. Nia ran up to him and wrapped him in a hug as she wept. Sara, a girl Janner had saved from the Fork! Factory! Stood there in silence. She had not given up hope until that moment. She wanted nothing more than to wrap her arms around Janner and tell him her feelings for him. She stood there in shock. Artham walked over and put his hand in Nia's back and, seeing Sara standing there in shock, motioned for her to come over. She walked over slowly and wrapped her arms around Artham. He hugged her as she cried. Leeli was the only one who hadn't joined the family yet. She reached in her pack and pulled out her whistleharp. She took a deep breath and played from her heart. She did not know what she played nor did she ever remember how to play it again but she knew that whatever was played that day, was played for Janner. The soft music surrounded them and lifted up into the trees around them. She felt peace knowing that her brother was safe at last. After all this time on the run, after all this time in danger and in battles, Janner was home. When her song ended, Nia stood up and said, "We must go now. We will bury him at his home. In Anniera." They all slowly started to leave when Sara stoped. "Wait!" She said. They all stopped to look at her and Artham said, "Sara, it's time to go. There is nothing we can do." She stood there still. As if she had heard something. "I hear...water. Water!" She exclaimed. The whole family stopped and listened. "I hear it too!" Kalmar said. "Come." Artham ordered as he went ahead towards the sound. They all followed him and then they saw it. The First Well. They had found it! They rushed to its edge and stopped. "Let me try it out." Artham said. "If it works on me and takes away these claws and wings and keeps me the same size, not turning me into a giant, then we can try Janner." He had some water in his old treehouse in Glipwood and had given it to Leeli's dead dog, Nugget. The problem was, it made him big enough for people to ride on him. Nia nodded slowly and Artham bent down, cupped his claws together, dipped them in, and drank. He stood up and waited. Then, when it seemed like nothing would happen, his eyes widened. He shook and his claws started to get smaller and turn into human hands. His wings shrunk down into his back and disappeared. There was a shining light all around him. After that transformation, he stood there in shock. He still had not looked at his hands. He just looked straight ahead. "Did it work?" He asked. Kalmar smiled wide and said, "Look for yourself!" Artham slowly looked down and he saw his hands. He gasped and moved his fingers. He turned his head and saw that his wings were gone. "Finally. I am back." He immediately broke out of his daze and said, "Okay it works. Let's do Janner." Nia delicately unwrapped Janner's body and sat his head in her lap. He no longer looked like Janner. He looked dead. Just dead. Nia opened his mouth and Kalmar put water in his hands, then he pored it into Janner's mouth. Then they waited. And waited. And waited. "Please come back." Nia begged. There was no change. Sara's eyes darkened and she hung her head. It hadn't worked. Janner Wingfeather was dead. Leeli wanted to pull out her whistleharp again and play but she couldn't. All hope was gone now. Not even the well could bring him back. Nobody cried. Nobody said anything. They all hoped that it worked but deep down, they all knew it wouldn't. Leeli began to sing. She sang an age old song that was sung when a loved one has died. Nia started to wrap Janner back up and before she did his head she stopped. She looked at him and whispered, " I love you." She kissed his forehead and she looked at her son one last time. Then, as she was about to cover his face with the cloth, she noticed something. His lips. They looked as if they moved. She leaned in closer. "Janner?" She asked. "M mmmm mmm." Janner had spoke! Well, he tried to. His skin had regained its color and he no longer looked dead. Everyone stared at him in wonder. "Janner? It's Momma. I'm here!" Nia said in a soothing voice. Nia held his hand and he squeezed her's. She gasped and covered her mouth. Then, Janner's eyes fluttered opened. "Momma?" Janner asked tiredly. "Yes! Yes I am here! Oh Janner! My baby boy!" She hugged him and kissed him over and over again. She helped him sit up and he was attacked by more hugs from Leeli and Kal. "Janner! You're alive! Why did you do that?! It was supposed to be me! Janner! I'm so happy and mad at you!" Kalmar exclaimed. Janner laughed and looked at Leeli. "I heard your singing. You helped me come back." Leeli smiled and hugged him again. Artham hugged him and said, "Well done Throne Warden." Janner beamed. Then he saw Sara. "Wait, you're here!?" He asked, surprised. "Wow." Sara giggled. "Nice to see you to." "No that's not what I meant. I just meant that- well- I wasn't- I didn't-" He did not know what to say. Sara walked up slowly and wrapped her arms around him. He was shocked. "I love you Janner Wingfeather." She whispered. When she looked at him, she laughed. His jaw dropped and his eyes were wide. He couldn't say a word but when he smiled at her, Sara knew he felt the same. "Come on Janner. Let's see if you can stand." Artham said as he lifted Janner up to his feet. It was obvious he needed a minute to get used to it again but after a few practice tries, Janner was able to walk again. They all started their journey home. Nia stayed close to Janner for a long time. She kept asking if he was alright and if he needed a break. "I am fine Momma." Janner said continuously. Janner kept looking at Sara, wanting to talk to her but was to embarrassed to say anything yet. He looked at Leeli and motioned her over and said, "Can you.. you know, get Momma so that I can.." "I got you." She replied as she walked over to Nia. "Momma can you come here for a sec?" She asked as she lead Nia away. She turned and gave Janner a thumbs up. Janner and Sara were walking alone now. "So ummm. You missed me?" Janner asked. Sara smiled and said. "Of course I did." "Did you mean it? What you said?" Janner asked. Sara smiled again and said, "Of course I did." Janner looked at her and smiled. "I have been wanting to tell you something, Sara. I, umm, well- what I wanna say is-" Sara giggled and kissed his cheek. "I love you to." She said simply. Janner gently touched his cheek where she had planted her kiss and goofily smiled at her which made her laugh even more. Janner hugged her and she hugged him. Just then they looked up to see everyone staring at them. "Oh umm hi?" Janner said, clearly embarrassed. Sara laughed and said, "Well, are we going home or what?" They all smiled and they kept walking. Kalmar looked at them and made a heart with his hands before turning around. Sara slipped her hand into Janner's and they all walked back home. Back to the Shining Isle of Anniera.
