3. The Advance Guard

Lilly's POV
We flew in and it was three days after Harry was "expelled." Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Mad-Eye Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Elphias Doge, Dedalus Diggle, Emmeline Vance, Sturgis Podmore, and I went to rescue Harry. Lupin commented saying, "A surprising number of people volunteered to come and get you, Harry."
Moody said, "Yeah, well, the more the better, we're your guard, Potter."
I said, "We're just waiting for the signal to tell us it's safe to set off, we've got about fifteen minutes."
Tonks said, "Very clean, aren't they, these Muggles? My dad's Muggle-born and he's a right old slob. I suppose it varies, just like wizards?"
Harry was anxious and said, "Er - yeah, look what's going on, I haven't heard anything from anyone, what's Vol-?"
Moody said, "Shut up! We're not discussing anything here, it's too risky! Damn it! It keeps sticking ever since that scum wore it!"
I grabbed Moody a glass of water and his magical eye whizzed around. I told Harry, "We're flying by brooms and I suggest you get your things packed." Tonks followed Harry up to his room and she told him how she was an Auror and a metamorphmagus and she helped him pack.
They came back into the kitchen and Lupin said he wrote a note to Harry's aunt and uncle.
He said, "I've left a letter telling your aunt and uncle not to worry-"
"They won't, " said Harry.
"That you're safe -"
"That'll depress them."
"- and you'll see them next summer."
"Do I have to?"
Lupin smiled, but gave no answer. We went out to the garden and Moody told us our ranks. I'm in front with Remus and Tonks at my side, and Moody is in the back. Moody explained to Harry that if all of us die to keep going east and another guard will protect him. Jeez, a bit too serious Mad-Eye! We quickly landed after being frozen in the air. We landed outside a park and Moody had Harry read and memorize these words, "The headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix may be found at number twelve, Grimmauld Place, London."
