28. Snape's Worst Memory

Lilly's POV
I got up early and Umbridge wanted to see me. She gave me, and a lot of other Slytherins, pins for the Inquisitorial Squad. Malfoy asked, "Why does she get one? She hangs out with that Potter boy all the time!" She said, "Dear Draco, she only hangs out with them in order to gain information for the Ministry. We want business as usual when it comes to her so she won't break her cover. So please, be nice when she is away from Potter, but continue normally if she is near Potter. I do not want points docked from her, whatsoever. Is that clear?" He said solemnly, "Of course, Professor." He asked me before we left, "Is that all really a trick for Potter?" I said, "Of course. I hate that he is arrogant and I refuse to believe whatever he says. I just go along with it to give Professor Umbridge the tips. Also, do you really think I would go out with someone like Neville?" He laughed and said, "Well played, Lilly... well played..." I stared at him shocked saying, "You called me Lilly..." He shrugged saying, "You call me Draco..." I nodded and said, "Bye Draco, we'll be seeing each other very soon."
Everyone knew about how Dumbledore escaped the Ministry's clutches. My friends knew I was under the influence of a truth serum and do not blame me, they knew I was playing double agent against Umbridge. I walked with my friends and Ernie was talking with us. Malfoy showed up and docked points from everyone but me... We walked past each other and locked eyes. He gave a slight nod and I gave a slight nod as well. We went to lunch, Fred and George said they were doing something special, and I told Harry, "Whatever you do, don't drink what she gives you!" He looked at me curiously and then Fitch retrieved him for Umbridge.
She interrogated him about Dumbledore and Sirius. Then Fred and George set fireworks off all over the school, teachers didn't care, they loved it, if Umbridge tries to stun them, they just keep going and if you try to vanish them, they multiply by ten. Umbridge said not to stun, so, without thinking, I vanished ten of them and she said to stop vanishing them! I gave Fred and George a wink.
Umbridge spent the afternoon running to teachers' classrooms trying to banish the fireworks. I kept on vanishing the fireworks. So, they kept on through the day and Fred and George were the heroes in the Gryffindor common room. Fred and George came up to me and asked, "Do you happen to know why our fireworks supply got to be so big? We gained more than twice as much of the amount we sent out, care to explain?" I giggled saying, "Well, originally I had Stunned them, and then I just did my orders under Umbridge not to Stun them and I just Vanished them, I kept on trying and trying all day, but it just wouldn't work. I kept it up all day." They pulled me off the couch and hugged me. I shouted, "Can't... breathe!!" They let me go and kissed my cheeks, on twin on each side. Fred said, "Brilliant Lilly!" Neville wrapped his arms around my waist saying, "Yeah, she is..." I blushed profusely and the twins went off talking to Hermione. I turned in Neville's arms and asked, "Is someone jealous?" He looked at his feet and I kissed his lips saying, "Hey, know that I am only yours." He nodded kissing me back. We sat down and he put his arm around me. I said, "Do you know what happened this morning? Umbridge gave me a pin saying I was in the Inquisitorial Squad and Malfoy thought I shouldn't have one. I told him I double crossed you guys and he was shocked. He actually called me by my first name..." Neville said, "Wow, that's rather odd. Malfoy only calls his friends by their first names..." I said, "Yeah, it was weird, but he will realize that I am going to double cross him. He's a good guy from his mother, but his dad is too much of an influence on him. He's turning into his father, but I always have a flicker of hope that he will be like his mum. Kind." Neville snorted saying, "Malfoy, nice? That's like saying Sirius is a murderer..." I sighed saying, "I know it sounds crazy and farfetched, but I've seen his fears and his thoughts, he's confused and he's scared." Neville nodded. I said, "Now. If you will excuse me, I have rounds to do with Draco." I pulled away from his embrace and sent a letter to Draco and Pansy saying, "Miss Parkinson, you are not needed for rounds tonight, however Mr. Malfoy, you are needed for rounds. Meet me outside the Slytherin common room at seven to go for rounds on the fourth floor. -L" I did that because I just wanted to get my mind off things. I waited outside for Malfoy and I said, "You're late." He retorted, "Only by a minute." I said, "Then we have no time to spare." He said, "No one's around, you can drop the act." I replied, "Then you do the same, Draco." He nodded and we journeyed to the fourth floor. I asked, "Why are you being so nice to me, Draco? Calling me by my first name, not taking one go at me, why?" He said, "Always staight to the point with you, Lilly." I nodded as went were walking the hall. I said, "Time can be wasted on petty things, I prefer to get to the point in order to save myself and others time for more important things..." He said, "Very true... Look, all these years, I thought you hated me, I thought you were being a blood-traitor. When I found out you were double crossing Potter I realized you were just playing him in secret." I said, "We all have choices, Draco. My choice is to make a difference, to fight. Whether I am know or not, I refuse to cause chaos, but instead bring light to certain circumstances." He nodded saying, "How come you aren't in Slytherin?" I said, "The Sorting Hat originally wanted to put me there, but it suddenly decided to put me in Gryffindor. I never knew why..." He said, "Probably because you are really brave to trick so many people..." I nodded and continued walking. He took my hand saying, "Lilly..." I froze and turned to face him. He came closer and I backed up until my back hit the wall. He caressed my cheek with his other hand and leaned in, his eyes flickering to my lips...

We suddenly heard screams and I pushed Draco away from me. I said, "It's in the boy's bathroom!" He ran in and then ran out saying, "Montague has his head jammed in a toilet!" I said, "Run for Professor Snape, I'll get Professor Umbridge."

I saw Harry see and understand why Snape hates his father and him. James attacked Snape on a daily basis without Snape provoking James. He picked on Snape for fun...

Professor Umbridge got him out of the toilet and then Snape came to help since it was his student. He got him sort of coherent. Professor Umbridge said, "Well, nice job, both of you, you may return to your common rooms early after you bring Mr. Montague to the Hospital Wing. Thank you." Draco and I had ove arm around each of our necks hauling him to Madam Pomfrey and I walked out rather quickly after we heaved him onto the bed.
