"AG-NBC station in Atlanta, Georgia, covering a news story about the reported suicide of a beloved ranking police officer found in her home in Decatur, she leaves behind a loving family, and promising career."

Onyx stared at the 75-inch flat screen tv, he was at a loss for words. He couldn't believe his eyes and ears, Lovelyn was dead. He'd been getting ready for court when the news came on full blast, interrupting that.
Though the news claimed she committed suicide, deep down he knew something was off. He grabbed his phone and checked every social media she had for signs that his intuition was right. When he landed on Facebook, his heart sunk at what he saw.

"Friends, family, and to the love of my life, Onyx. I'm really focused on what my heart desires, and that desire is peace. I've lived long enough to know what I want and have spent quite some time thinking about how I'm going to achieve it. The life all of you have helped me live is more than favorable in my eyes and I hope that you all can accept that. I'm off to a new start and don't need distractions to become even better in the eyes of the lord. Also, Onyx I'm sorry. For letting you down in the time I could've helped you the most, please forgive me.

~ With love, Lovelyn 🫶🏽"

Onyx couldn't help but be confused at Lovelyn's postmortem statement. In his eyes, things seemed to be going good. Lovelyn didn't seem suicidal and it puzzled him how she got the strength to shoot herself. She was always so timid around guns whenever he found himself cleaning one.

Onyx said a quick prayer before he continued getting dressed. Sorrow was itching to consume him but he fought to keep composure. He had to be focused if he wanted to sway the judge and win his case.

Once Onyx finished getting dressed, he began grabbing things he needed, ready to head out to court. In the midst of that, his phone began vibrating violently in his pocket. Call after call, text after text. Not in the mood, he reached in his pocket and clicked the silent mode switch on his iPhone.

One hour later....

At court Onyx was exhausted at all the attempts prosecutors made to win their case. But one thing stuck out in particular. They'd tried framing him for Lovelyn's death. Claiming he'd caught on to her being an undercover cop then murdered her, making it look like a suicide. This furied him, because truthfully he'd been clueless up until now. His mind was in a whirlwind.

Once again, Onyx was being framed for another murder he hadn't committed. Yet, the betrayal he felt swarmed his heart and mind.

"How I ain't peep that shit?"  Onyx asked himself. He'd really been blindsided by looks and a facade that Lovelyn put up. Now the post and apology she made on Facebook made complete sense. She hoped that post would save her life and it didn't.

After hearing the details of Lovelyn's death, Onyx couldn't help but ponder on who'd done it. He wanted to thank them personally, because after hours of his lawyer and the defendant going back and forth, eventually the judge decided to drop the case. There was no evidence that he'd killed Mayor Carter or Lovelyn. Plus, they didn't have a case now that Lovelyn was dead.

The court was sent into an uproar when the judge dismissed the case. Some people were happy and others outraged.

Onyx looked around and spotted Promise staring a whole into him. They made eye contact and held that for what seemed like eternity.

Promise then winked and left the courtroom, confusing Onyx even more.

Outside, different media outlets tried their best to get first dibs on the storyline Onyx possessed.

Onyx ignored them as he made his way to his black on black Escalade. He was halted in his steps by Lovelyn's mother who looked distraught.
He had no words for her, knowing there was a silent beef between them. Instead he stood there waiting for her to get the hint to walk away.

"You BASTARD! You murdered my baby. I hope you meet the same fate, you piece of shit." Lovelyn's mother spewed before spitting in Onyx's face.

Onyx was furious as he used his handkerchief to wipe away the glob of saliva on his cheek. He was torn between reacting to the disrespect and feeling remorse for the older woman. "I'm sorry your daughter betrayed me, but I did not kill Lovelyn." He stated honestly.

"Fuck you." Lovelyn's mother said before slapping Onyx as hard as she could.

Onyx in a split second flinched at Lovelyn's mother, catching himself before he did something he regretted. He understood her pain but the disrespect was intolerable. She was taking her anger out on the wrong person.

The media stood by capturing the fiasco before them. Knowing it would land them a huge pay day.

Just in the nick of time, security intervened and escorted  Lovelyn's mother off the premises. Her family and her were shouting so many hateful things it was hard to keep up.

"You're gonna pay for this. I promise you!" Lovelyn's mother shouted as she was carried away by her husband.

Onyx felt numb, he'd never been handled that way in his life. It temporarily humbled him, but he knew he had to set the record straight. If he didn't address the disrespect, niggas would think they could do the same thing.

Once he made it inside of his vehicle, he made a call that would change the trajectory of his image. Ruthless was an understatement, he'd be known as a tyrant for what he was about to have done.
