Sissy climbed the basement stairs, her heart heavy from the encounter with Y/n. Her emotions swirled with sympathy for the girl, battling against the loyalty she held for her family.
As she emerged on the main floor, Sissy spotted Johnny seated at the kitchen table. His face bore the weight of both frustration and deep contemplation. She approached him with caution, her footsteps nearly silent against the creaky wooden floor.
"Johnny," she began gently, her voice a soft plea, "we need to talk."
Johnny's weary gaze met hers, and he acknowledged the gravity of the situation that loomed over them.
"Yeah," he responded in a somber, subdued tone. "I know."
Sissy took a seat across from Johnny, the morning sun beaming in through the curtains. She clasped her hands together, her fingers trembling slightly as she began, "Johnny, you know we can't afford any more mistakes." She giggled nervously, "keepin' her here is reckless, and now she knows too much."
Johnny sighed, his shoulders slumping under the weight of guilt. "I never told her anything about this. I don't even know her so I thought I could handle her questions, keep her away from the area for awhile. She did this to herself."
Sissy's gaze softened with understanding, but her concern remained. "We gotta decide what to do next, Johnny. The longer she's here, the more danger we're in."
Johnny nodded, a grim determination in his eyes. "I'll figure it out. Don't you worry bout' that."
Sissy knew the path they were treading was dark, but there was no turning back. She placed a reassuring hand on Johnny's, silently affirming their bond and shared resolve to protect their family secrets at any cost.
Johnny leaned back in his chair, his brow furrowing with a deep sense of unease. "Sissy," he began, his voice low and filled with uncertainty, "I've never been in a situation like this before. None of our previous... visitors ever got this close to us. It's different, and it's scarier."
Sissy's eyes met Johnny's, her own unease mirrored in his words. They both knew that the stakes had been raised, and the consequences of their actions had never been so dangerous.
Sissy nodded in agreement, her brow furrowed in worry. "And there's another thing, Johnny. She mentioned her buddy's expectin' a call this morning. Someone knows she's here. This puts us in an even tighter spot."
Johnny leaned forward , a skeptical look on his face. "You think she's bluffin' about that call, Sissy? Might be a way to rattle us, make us do somethin' stupid."
Sissy frowned, considering Johnny's words. "Could be, but I saw the fear in her eyes, Johnny. She ain't bluffing about being a writer, and if her friend's expecting that call, we might be runnin' out of time."
Johnny sighed heavily, finally accepting the reality of the situation. "Guess this can't wait then..."
Sissy gave a solemn head shake. Johnny, his face buried in his hands and his elbows resting on his knees, mumbled in response, "This is a real mess, isn't it?"
Sissy nodded, her concern evident. "What's your plan here, Johnny?" she asked, recognizing the need for some sort of course of action if they were to keep Y/n alive any longer.
Johnny sighed heavily, his hands gesturing wildly as he spoke. "I don't know, waste her, I guess?" He said, his tone heavy with resignation. "Hell, it feels like the only thing Im good at anymore." He crossed his arms, a sense of deep contemplation etching his face.
Sissy leaned back in her chair, her eyes fixed on Johnny as they both contemplated their predicament. The tension in the room was palpable as they searched for a way out of the perilous situation they found themselves in.
