Johnny's frustration boiled over, "Damn it, Nub! You're pushing it! Sick of your shit!"
Nubbins, grinning mischievously, shot back, "What's the matter, J-johnny? Can't handle a little thrill?" A giggle bubbled up within him.
Rolling his eyes, Johnny retorted, "This ain't fun, you freak! Now we got a, what? Two hour walk ahead of us?"
Nubbins, seemingly unbothered, laughed maniacally, "I-I would be a little more worried about s-somethin' else if I were you," he turned back and flashed a smile, "you've been gone for days! The old man ain't gonna like seeing y-your girl 'round neither!"
Johnny's frustrated gaze flickered back to y/n, who felt a creeping sense of dread at the looming confrontation with Johnny's family. The once-dense forest began to thin, no longer offering them respite from the searing sun. As the trio pressed on toward the family home, Johnny's voice echoed, "Well, it's none of his damn business now, is it?" The air hung heavy with tension, the weight of their predicament settling upon them like a suffocating cloak.
Nubbins, seemingly unconcerned, chimed in, " Where were you, anyway?"
Johnny retorted, "Well, it's none of your business either."
Nubbins, seemingly amused by Johnny's defensive demeanor, let out a mocking giggle and whooped playfully. He turned his head abruptly, locking eyes with y/n for an uncomfortable moment. His widening smile and snickering only added to the unease reflected on y/n's disturbed face.
Nubbins, in his peculiar manner, chimed in, "Well, are you s-s-staying for dinner now?" His tone was almost whimsical, creating an eerie contrast with the unsettling situation.
Y/n hesitated before stuttering a response. Nubbins, with an almost childlike curiosity, let his eyes trail down to Johnny and remarked, "Hhhey, what's all that blood?"
Johnny, growing frustrated, retorted, "You gonna make the whole trip miserable?"
Nubbins' demeanor shifted, his face falling slightly, but he continued to walk, now with a heavier step.
Y/n glanced over at Johnny, sensing his frustration from the van troubles and their stay in the woods. However, she couldn't help but notice that he didn't seem overwhelmed by grief.
Y/n couldn't help but be curious about how Johnny was handling everything, considering the traumatic events they had experienced. She pondered how she might react if she had witnessed her mother's death. When she looked at Johnny, her curiosity evident, he turned to her and asked, "What?"
Y/n, gesturing with concern, asked Johnny if he was holding up. Johnny, in response, brushed off her concern, saying, "Not what I'm worried about right now, y/n."
Y/n gave Johnny a peculiar stare, a bit disturbed by the coldness in his response. The vivid images of Nancy going limp, the echoes of Johnny's scream, and the sickening sound of bones being crushed flashed through her mind. Despite her belief that her last days had desensitized her, the memories left her feeling sick. She looked away, struggling to shake off the haunting scenes that lingered in her thoughts.
Y/n's mind continued its relentless journey through traumatic memories, flashing back to Ana's hanging body, the dripping decay, the unsettling act of being fed human flesh, and the gruesome transformation of the doctor into a bloody mess. The final haunting image emerged – Ken, the innocent man who found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, the one she pulled the trigger on. The weight of these memories made her blood run cold, the intense heat around her only intensifying the overstimulation of her already messy mind.
Y/n felt an overwhelming desire to escape, an urge to break down and bang her head on the ground until the haunting thoughts dissipated. The whiplash of emotions, the memories of death and the role she had to play, left her in a state of disarray. She recognized that this emotional turbulence wasn't something that would vanish anytime soon – a constant companion that would stick with her long after, that is if she managed to make it through the night.
