CHAPTER 22

"W-What?" I uttered.

"Selene, someone has been maneuvering his car break and tailing him! The men were riding a motor when they shot Nico on his left chest! He's critical!" Sunod-sunod na iyak niya.

Napahawak ako sa noo ko. Bigla akong nawalan ng balanse at muntik ng matumba, kung hindi lang dahil sa humawak sa bewang ko, malamang nasa sahig na ako ngayon.

I looked at who it was and saw that it was Steve looking at me worriedly.

"Are you okay? You're pale," he said worriedly.

"S-Steve..." I called his name in a shaking voice.

He stared at me and then to my phone. Nagkasalubong ang dalawang kilay niya. "Who's that?" he asked.

Hindi ko maibuka ang bibig ko para sumagot kaya naman siya na mismo ang kumuha sa cellphone sa hawak ko at kinausap ang nasa kabilang linya.

"Hello? Who's this? What happened?" I heard Steve asked the other line while still helping me to stand up straight because I'm loosing my balance.

Napaisip ako. Nico was shot? He has a lot of bodyguards! And aside from that, who would dare to shoot him?

Masamang damo iyon! Hindi mamamatay iyon ng basta-basta! 

Unconsciously, I looked at the exit when I felt a strange, heavy gaze on me and saw the familiar face that once gave me a nightmare every night.

I gasped.

Napahawak ako sa dibdib ko at nagsimula ng manginig ang buong katawan ko. My heart was pounding very fast, and I could feel sweat starting to form on my forehead.

Memories from my sufferings suddenly came back as I saw him smirk at me after seeing my reaction.

He put his forefinger in his mouth, signaling me to shut up.

I trembled. I could feel my hands starting to feel numb, and I gasped for air. I suddenly felt so suffocated that I couldn't breathe properly.

At first, I thought I was just hallucinating, but then he's still standing there while looking at me evilly, even if I blink many times already!

“I'll get you soon...” He mouthed that sent shivers down my spine.

"S-S-Steve..." Hirap na tawag ko kay Steve na busy pa rin sa kausap.

He looked at me, and his eyes widened in shock upon seeing me shaking in fear.

Biglang pumasok sa isip ko ang binulong sa akin nun ni Alyssa nang magkita kami sa restaurant.

"Be careful with your surroundings. I heard your father's out of prison. Nakawala. You know... Money."

Steve ended the call. Hinawakan ako nito sa magkabilang balikat. "Hey, calm down. What's happening? Don't worry about Nico, he'll be fine." Steve reassured me, but then it's not just because of that that I am shaking, but because of the man I saw just now!

Umiling-iling ako. My vision is becoming blurry because of my tears about to fall. "I-I t-think I saw him here, Steve! Steve!" I started to panicked.

"Saw what? Who?" he confusedly asked me.

Tinuro ko ang direksyon kung saan ko nakita iyong dating, kinilala kong akala ko ay ama ko gamit ang nanginginig kamay.

"My father..." Iyak ko.

He looked in that direction, and I saw how his eyes darkened and became more dangerous as he clenched his jaw repeatedly.

He looked at me. He cupped my cheeks, wiped my tears, and kissed my forehead. "Calm down, breathe in, breathe out, slowly," he softly said.
